Dear fellow Deer Parkians,

A request from a neighbor if it applies to you.
Please control your incessantly barking dogs or perhaps put some effort into training them. You may love your pooch, but at best I am indifferent towards it and have a negative view of having to listen to your barking pooch hours on end.
Please step up to the plate and control your dogs. Let us return to the days of peace and quiet, where Deer Park can shine as the happy bird sanctuary, and oasis of human kindness, love and camaraderie that we all remember existed in the not so distant past.

I wish the neighbors’ dogs barking were my biggest worry…
My next door neighbor has pit-bulls and one of them got through my fence on Tuesday evening, after dark, and pulled my 14 year old shit-tzu through and we had to get him out of their yard. My dog was mauled and may never recover. We spent the 1st night at the animal emergency hospital in Houston and two more days at our vet’s office. Our little dog cant walk any more, is not eating, and I worry he wont make it.
Our vet, Dr Hunter and his staff, at Fairmont Animal Clinic have been wonderful and the staff at the DP Animal Control have been also very supportive, but all we can do is continue to keep nursing our dog and hope he survives.
Animal Control said that because our dog was found in the neighbors yard, there is little or nothing they can do. It is my word against the neighbors…
The pit-bull owner doesn’t care and the DP Animal Control doesn’t seem to be able to do anything in our situation…
I just don’t understand how we can allow animals like pit-bulls within the city limit without at least having some severe restriction on how they are kept.

Although my heart goes out to you in knowing it is difficult knowing you may loose your little 4 legged family member, your comment about "pitbulls" is crazy. Our family has grown up with pits and I 100% stand behind pits being wonderful dogs. You are ignorantly informed on pitbulls and as a typical person to call them "dangerous" not all of them are. It could have been a lab, golden retriever or any other dog next door to you, however you speak up because it's a pit. You were there and saw the whole thing happen or are you assuming the dog dragged your dog back to their yard? How are you sure your dog didn't find it's way over there? Once again, I'm sorry about your pet and hope that it recovers well. Prayers for your family and pet, good day....

Thank you - My dog has a long way to go before recovery is done, he will never be the same. We hope he makes it.
Pit Bulls, when they're family dogs are OK pets. NOT when they are kept chained or locked up and unattended all the time. These dogs next door are not pets... The family is selling their pups. The dogs get no more attention than necessary, and the Animal Control people have already (previously) had to talk to them about the lack of care of their animals (I just learned that yesterday).
Pits are very aggressive dogs, when NOT properly trained or cared for. My point was the size of a large pit in its prime v/s a very small and old shi-tzu.
As to why I know that my dog was attacked in my yard... The fence was broken from the neighbor’s side; the (large) paw prints with claw marks were also on my side of the fence in a position that clearly showed where the (large) dog was... Yes, you're right, I did not see it, but it was pretty simple to see the evidence.
Thank you again for your good thoughts for our (dog) family member.

You're correct, dogs will become aggressive when chained up for prolonged time periods. Why people choose to have animals and not properly care for them is besides me, however persistence is the key when you know something is wrong. Don't take no for an answer, continue on and find out what the next step is if you're hit with a roadblock, being told no from animal control. I honestly feel any day can be mistreated and become defensive and scared.

Sorry about your pooch. I saw a pit get away from his owner and attack and kill a neighbors cat then chase everyone off the street. The police were called and the dog rounded up.

My neighbor has a boxer and a pit bull.Whenever I am in the backyard the pit is snorting and sniffing along the fence line pacing up and down watching my every move. when they find him doing this they train her not to, and they do not allow their dogs to bark excessively.(I do keep and old Driver Golf Club handy just in case) They do not let either of their pooches into the front yard and they have been very responsible with their dogs. The smell of dog crapola does however waft into our yard and is particularly foul in the summer.

The doomsday prepper types behind us let their dogs (mutts) out and they constantly whine and bark when they are out, although they keep them in most of the time they do set them in the back yards for extended periods of time and into the night. I have never heard the owners tell their dogs to be quiet.

There are some dog owners to my East - North East - North North West and South west that on some nights let their dogs bark all night long, sometimes there are two or three of them going at the same time. I put in ear plugs.

I would take the whole issue to court! Might prove a point at least. Make them fix fence too! Don't back down. Is there a limit to how many dogs you can have where you live?

Over two weeks have passed and my dog stills struggles to stand, can hardly walk, has been to the vet 12 times, and still has open wounds. We still hope he will recover, but we aren’t sure that he will. Its up to God to decide.
Ever since the Animal Control people spoke to the neighbors I have not heard their dogs barking, also the neighbors now avoid us... Of course there has been no apology or offer to pay for all the veterinary costs.
I'm disappointed that Animal Control could do nothing other than talk to them, but I've come to understand that they have their regulations to follow as well.
I poured concrete and bricks ll along that side of the fence to make sure their dogs can do this again.
I may take this to court, but my priority is to take care of my dog right now.
