Sure am going to miss this event this year. What's said is this all started with one man that wanted to see highschool students go to college and make something of themselves so that one day they may open up there own business in this Great City of Deer Park or may even go back to the school they once attended to teach the future kids of America, but it's seems that is was all squashed because of the City Officials (The Mayor, City Manager, Assist City Manager, and a few members on the City Council Board). It wasn't bringing in any money into the city? It's not all about the city!!!! Oh, but people were coming in from out of town posting up at the hotels on center! What do they cook? Oh the meat from the local grocery stores! Where did all the beer come from? Oh, the local grocery stores! Then the poor mayor got his feeling hurt because no one knew he was when he was walking around!!! LET ME REMIND EVERYONE THAT THIS EVENT WASN'T ABOUT MAKING MONEY FOR THE CITY, IT'S ABOUT GIVING THE OPPORTUNITY FOR A SENIOR IN HIGHSCHOOL TO GO TO COLLEGE TO FULL FILL THEIR DREAM!!!! I cook at this cook off and each year at least multiple students cry each year when scholarship money is given to them!!

Well said. Vote for Sherry Garrison for position #1 and either Jeff Pound or Larry Cernosek for Mayor if you want the welcome mat out again. Our students need that help, they deserve it, some city officials just don't get it. Time for some serious changes.

I did not know this. Had a friend who was on a cooking team who always participated because it was for a good cause, the kids. Sad and surprised it has been cancelled.

Sure is a shame. Let's see how successful the event is without the cook teams. Let's see how great of an event the Chamber puts on with our tax dollars. Maybe the Mayor can have his own golf cart with a sign that reads MAYOR on it. Hey look at me. Crying shame.

I have a friend as well who cooked in it. He was featured on Debra Duncan show and allowed Culp to throw his support behind it although Debra was there for my friends cooking team because he has been featured on her show many times. Wonder what has changed their tune? Google it and watch the excitement and pride Chamber had one year ago. Ridiculous.

I'm sure the tune was changed when Culp saw an opportunity to make some money for the Chamber instead of the donations being made to students for scholarships. Remember the Circus. It never left town.

For once I agree with Bill. A buddy of mine who spearheaded the Cook off got absolutely screwed by the powers that be.

I will be supporting some new blood this time around. It is time for a change.

There is more than one vision for the "Community of Opportunity..."
