Baytown ISD is planning on showing the Obama Speech to Baytown Schools on 9/8. They will not be sending notes home to parents about this. They said that parents that want to opt out of this, can have their child moved to a seperate room. I think this is crap. People need to call the district and put a stop to this.

Put a stop to what? School children hearing a speech from the President? I remember when the first President Bush made a speech to school kids and we watched it when it aired live. What's the difference?

I don't recall the "what can I do to help the President?" activities surrounding Bush's speech.
I also can't find anything saying that President Bushes Secretary of Education sent letters detailing the speech directly to school principals, bypassing the school districts and school boards. If you went to school in Baytown, I'm not sure how a live broadcast could have made it into the classroom, due to there not being any t.v.s permanently mounted in the classrooms until '92. The speech was in '91. They typically recorded broadcasts and distributed them out to be viewed. I'm sure you're not just regurgitating the "Bush did it too" argument being made on all the state run media channels.

I never said I was in Baytown back then.
You are definitely getting worked up over a tempest in a teapot. It's just not that big a deal.

GCCISD is taping the speech and showing it at a later date. If you are too scared of Obama that you think he is going to mind meld your children into believing all the leftist marxist, socialist ideas with one speech then you can opt out of letting them hear "their" president. Supposedly however, he is talking to them about volunteerism, staying in school and staying off drugs....I know these are terrible things for your children to hear. Join Rush in his over the top protest. Never listen to other ideas. Stick your heads in the ground. OMGosh, get a freaking grip people. If he actually said anything political it would kill his chances of passing or doing anything.

Just for what it is worth, it seems George & Laura Bush back Obama's speech to the school children.
