I have an ax to grind with Gallegos. My employer in 04 cancled his work comp insurance and called his employes "independent contractors" so he could stick thousands of dollars in his pocket. Labor standards cited him $500.00 and he laughed at that. I got hurt and was told to have charges filed on the Employer so I spent hours of research and makeing contacts with several agencies to make it easy for a case to be made. Also I talkes to several lawyers and was told unless charges were filed nobody would take the case. I filed a Police report that went to the D A's office and I spoke to Gallegos. After a few weeks I was getting frustrated and was told by Gallegos"i would have to know what he was thinking". After three years I got back surgery with alot of help from The uninsured employers fund and advice from a few lawyers who wouldn't take the case but helped out. The Employer was Rapid Package Delivery. I was one of about one hundred or so employes that was left without work comp insurance. When labor standards in Redding and in Eureka both told the employer not to cancel his insurance it would be illegal he did it anyway .
Good Bye Gallegos

It's unfortunate that Gallegos has neglected to help so many of the people he is suposed to help. Fortunately, word of mouth has gotten the truth out and they can be heard when they cast their ballots. Even his organized effort to criticize anyone who speaks against him pales in comparision to real stories of his failure to stand by the victims of crimes.

Dear Editor,
Arenít you sick and tired of negative campaigning? What gets me rankled most is when a candidate slings mud and they arenít so clean themselves. Sadly, itís what we get from politicians who will say anything to get elected.
Who is Jackson to smear District Attorney Paul Gallegos for plea bargaining? Back in Ď97 when she was a Deputy DA, she pled out Yohan Lopez. It was his second arrest that year. He had a prior for a concealed firearm. In the case on her desk, Lopez was arrested on possession of pot and resisting arrest so violently that he was charged with battery for sending a Eureka Police officer to the hospital.
Jackson dismissed the battery count, which carries a 3+ year sentence, and reduced a felony resisting arrest to a misdemeanor. Lopez served only 8 days for the reduced charge. He also pled out to possessing pot which cost him a hundred bucks. A guy who packs heat is caught smoking pot, beats up on a cop, and Jackson lets him walk.
Three months later, Lopez, stalks a kid heís having a dispute with, lays in wait and murders him in cold blood.
It was Paul Gallegos who finally caught Lopez and brought him to justice. Veteran Deputy Klein prosecuted. Now Lopez is serving life with no parole. Gallegosí office doesnít play around with dangerous felons.
So, next time you see Ms. Jackson slinging mud, you know itís to cover up her own dirt.

For over a decade I a was resident of Humboldt County, a businessman who served the criminal justice systems in Humboldt and surrounding Counties and a business associate of Paul Gallegos.
From experience working on criminal cases as a peace officer, federal investigator and defense investigator, I've observed Paul consistently exhibit the best in integrity, knowledge of the law and the ability to making common sense decisions for what is right under the law. Paul stood firm when he and I were being threaten with arrest inside the SHU at Pelican Bay by prison officials for calling them out for illegal acts by the prison officials; Gallegos litigated discovery motions against the State AG's office when they did their best to suppress exculpatory evidence that prison officials said did not exist and to his credit and integrity, he never failed to apply the law equally in all matters before us.
His opponent has a long history of disregarding sensible resolutions of matters at a great cost to the taxpayers and exhibited little in the way of leadership qualities.
Gallegos took and maintained the high and ethical road following his election and had to fight off the organized undermining interests of bitter rivals and their associates from within and still managed to provide competency and efficiency in the prosecution of criminals as well as showed effective management and retained honor in the face of such distractions.
I urge the voters of Humboldt to re-electing this man of honor as District Attorney.

Bob was an PI for clanton and other dope criminal defense attorneys. He hates the law and doesn't even live here. He made his living from illegal money. A good reason to dump the DA

Gallegos and integrity do not go together in the same sentence. He is a defense attorney and will always be one. We need a prosecuting attorney in the DA's office, one that stands for the law abiding people of our county. One that will hold these criminals invading our county to high standards of justice. Let's take a bite out of crime and get rid of Gallegos.

Your comments and observations are exactly why they hate him.Imagine standing up for the rights of everyone including inmates at the SHU. The HORROR.

How many of the Humboldt County Judges were defense attorneys? 100%.Imagine that.
Watson was a great Public defender.
Wilson was Clanton's partner.

Present some numbers on the percentage of Cal DA's who were defense attorneys opposed to having only prosecution job experiences.

There ought to be a law?Right.

inmates in the SHU should have zero rights; take them out of the SHU, stake them out like dogs on a rock pile and make large rocks small all day, everyday. Hard time should revert back to actual hard time; make them work, that would be a deterrent.

"should have zero rights"
Mr. Cloud,see what I mean.

You assume that all SHU inmates are lifers. Not so.Most inmates/residents of the PB SHU are heading to the streets again. Some are doing as little time as 16 months with half for DUI.
Any "Stones" ever have a cocktail or two and then drive home?I remember reading of a Stone getting busted for Cannabis Transportation with intent.Imagine that a Stone breaking the law and getting arrested. But the "Stone's" rights are precious and different from SHU inmates.

I used to work at Rapid and would really like to talk to you. If you never got any work comp benefits, I may be able to help you even 9 years after the fact. IT CAN BE DONE! Please tell me how to reach you.
