I find the article’s list of major contributors to the 4th District Supervisor race to be made up of a pretty interesting bunch of folks.

Neely has received thousand dollar-plus contributions from New York City, Beverly Hills and Half Moon Bay.

Actually, Bass' only major out-of-area contributors are two from Sacramento (one being a Union).

Perhaps I am not as bright as my neighbors, but why would our local-yokel political race be of any interest to these people? I'm sure this doesn't come merely from an appreciation for the cut of the candidates' jib. I mean, how many people living out-of-area send thousands of dollars to a local election on a whim?

Anyway, I don't live in the 4th District so I don't a vote on this. But I hope somebody does get around to asking his or her candidates to explain just what all this means.

The "Sacramento" union contribution is actually on behalf of the local electrical workers union and it's members. The only thing Sacramento about the contribution is where the check came from, that being the office of the union's legal counsel. To be clear, that contribution and endorsement does not come from out of the area.

Good question True anon

It's pretty obvious from the donation statements and the outcome of the primary election that Bonnie has little local support. She was a big backer of the Measure T that wanted to ban outside business contributions in local elections. Now here she is getting big money from outside interests. Shouldn't take too much investigative work to find out if any of these outside donors have projects with the Coastal Commission.

Bonnie has done some good things in the past but it seems that now she's more interested in getting reelected at any cost by putting a 'for sale' sign on her vote.

I am kind of surprised the press has downplayed the out of town donations to Neely.

Well, we're commenting now on an article in the Times Standard. Otherwise, I for one would have known nothing about it.

Please don't be too quick about tossing rocks at your opposition Bass4Super. There is that fellow (sorry, forgot the name,”somebody and associates” I think) in Sacramento that gave $1500 to the Bass campaign.

We're not all innocents here.

The somebody and associates is Danny Walsh who was a former 4th dist supervisor here before Neely. He still has family and ties to HC so it isn't a stretch to see a donation from him. Neely on the other hand has always gotten big money from out of the area and her largest contributor locally is Bill Pierson who has a real interest in keeping out a competitor, and we know where Bonnie stands on that issue [imagine that] The mere fact thet Bonnie is taking all that big money from SoCal is enough to question her priorities.

Add to the fact that most of the big money donors to Neely are real estate developers and she sits on the Coastal Commission that approves/denies real estate developments.
