Why not put it in Bellport in the outlets. All the stores are vacant anyway, why rip up and build new? Its only 2 miles away from the proposed area.

Well I looked everywhere to see if your claim is true and could not find any evidence of your unsubstantiated claim. I also went to the suffolk planning board site and saw no evidence.

If you skip down to the recommendations and read items 4, 5 and 6, for them to approve the plan to erect a Walmart at the proposed Hospital Road location would go against those recommendations. Those recommendations are:

4. Discourage retail sprawl.
Limit and avoid new retail development outside
the identified nodes. Consistent with the findings of
this report, new retail development is generally not
appropriate within the corridor. This type of sprawl
development should be strongly discouraged.

5. Encourage and retain industrial zoning.
The industrial vacancy rate on Long Island and
in the Towns of Brookhaven and Islip in particular,
is very low. Conversions of industrial land to other
uses should be avoided. Industrial development
generates far less traffic than retail development and
has a less deleterious impact to the regional
highway system.

6. Encourage redevelopment.
Limit the amount and location of new
development to encourage reinvestment in existing
sites and the adaptive reuse and redevelopment of
poorly performing commercial sites .
Redevelopment of commercial sites within
identified nodes should also be specifically
encouraged. Consideration should be given to the
establishment of a commercial Transfer of
Development Rights program along the corridor to
accomplish this goal.

If they indeed approve this and they have not published it yet anywhere, then shame on them and we should all consider them to be removed regardless of your stance on the Walmart. they should be removed for inconsistent behavior and not following their own study.

If you cannot provide any evidence that this was approved then you have just reaffirmed my belief that you are nothing more than an empty headed animal food trough wiper and have nothing of substance to contribute.

PS, I don't think of myself smarter than the next person, unless that person is you....

I love all you walmart haters out there. You cry and complain that this is coming, and when they finally build it, you'll be in there shopping. I'm sure all of you that oppose large companies never shop anyplace but small mom and pop stores.. liars! If traffic is a problem, the town will fix it. Here's an ingenious idea,, maybe with all of the tax money the walmart brings in, they can rebuild a new bridge, and give more jobs for that construction also. p.s. They can easily reroute the traffic and use the large 4 lane bridge on the other side of the hospital. You guys are just a bunch of little cry babies that are scared your womb is gonna get penetrated.
