I (we) have lived in Bayonne, for two
years. After leaving Manhattan I thought
it would be easier to find work. All I
have done is some substituting teaching
(and not in Bayonne..in Jersey City) and
temping. I would think one of the advantages
of Bayonne,is that it is smaller; and has
less competition, than Manhattan. I guess
its back to the Manhattan want ads!

Nice place to live? It's overcrowded, somehow youre always at a traffic light, parking is horrible, traffic is horrendous their high school is overcrowded and the kids are formed in groups and small gangs, people are rude, snobby or nosy, the cops are biased and the city is money hungry. A friend of mine got three tickets for the same thing in one day! Can you believe it? So you better be careful not to get pulled over. Last year a kid got beaten into a coma, lots of fights reported and drug activities. No sir, I will take my chances in Jersey City or New York City but don't tell me that Bayonne is a nice place to live because it's not!

I lived in from the time i was 10 years old till i was 34 which was 2 years ago.when i was a kid bayonne was a nice place to live. it has changed so much over the years and not for the better at all.bayonne will always be remembered as my home as i spent most of my life there .but as time as gone by and i had children of my own the more started to see bayonne was not the town i wanted my kids growing up in .its just getting worse and worse as they years go by.i mean really has anyone ever seen the projects on lord avenue, or 18th street ,or 26th street? just drive around town in some of those areas like i did one day .and see for yourself whats going on in this town.and is not just those areas those just happen to be some of the worst.jersey city slowly over the years became the garbage city it is now .and bayonne sad to say is not far behind at all .i couldnt even begin to tell you how much less i sold my house for because of the property value .its gone to hell nobody wants to move to bayonne anymore .and they build a off track betting location into the city ..i mean come on wtf do you people think thats gonna bring a higher class of people to town really ? just gonna bring more scum here .its sad for me to say but the town i grew up in .riding my bike on broadway, playing football or baseball in the school courtyard ,playing in the snow ,,and then when i was a little older hanging out on 38th street at bayonne pizza ..that is all gone and its a town i didnt even want my children to grow up in .the bayonne of my childhood and most others is gone .and whats left is nothing good .people if you live there now and own a home im telling you get out while you can cause the day is not far off when your home will be worth nothing cause nobody is gonna want to live there .trust me i know .i took a 86 grand hit on my house and it wasnt because of the market .it was cause nobody wanted to even look at the place when they found out where it was .

I was born and raised in Bayonne. What a great place it was. I would have loved to raise my kids there...I moved away years ago for a job opportunity and raised my family elsewhere. I still go back to Bayonne to visit friends and family. What a HOLE the city has become!
The place is falling apart, crime is on the rise, drug use is all over the place, burglary, robbery, destruction of public/private property etc...The political scene is in turmoil, the policemen are the most rude, unprofessional, nasty, arrogant, pig headed (no pun intended), bastards I've ever met...I got that from just asking an easy yes or no question. There aren't any good businesses there, as far as shopping. Empty buildings everywhere, no pride in ownership of the houses. The streets are full of pot holes....what the......
People are fleeing from Bayonne. Either moving down the shore, or moving to what we used to call..the country. People are even moving out of state. Hey Mark...yeah, you ...Mr. Mayor....start looking out for the people in Bayonne and not for yourself and your friends and family. Take a play out of the Fitzpatrick and Collins playbook....if you want to be a Good Mayor, be well respected and save the city from collapes....see what they did. Your head is so far ....ummm...in the clouds that you can't even hear what the citizens of your city are saying about you and your politics and how much they care about their city...they are crying Mark...If I was a resident of Bayonne, in the next election, I would vote for Tony Chiappone...HA! no really....I would...and this is not an endorsement for him by any means...it's to prove a point about where this city is and where it is going. Thanks...thanks very much.

Here's my take on moving to Bayonne...
Transportation: HBLR (light rail) is overall a relatively clean and efficient system that links to PATH. Driving around is not bad, but forget trying to find a place to park.
Shopping: Downtown (Broadway) could be a nice place to shop, but (again) lack of parking makes it not worth the hassle unless it's within walking distance.
Locals: Mostly friendly and helpful.
Safety: I never feel unsafe in Bayonne, but every area has sections to avoid.
Restaurants: Mostly mediocre to fair selection. One or two stand out, but that's it.
Lounges: Same as restaurant comments.
Neighborhoods: Avenue A near the 16th Street park has some horrible Section 8 renters that constantly disrupt the area. They basically live on the porch all day (and most of the night), screaming, cursing, dog barking, sometimes 20 people partying on the porch, etc. Repeated calls to the police do nothing.
If the city created better parking and seriously cracked down on nuisance neighbors, I would have an entirely different view. As it is now, I would never recommend moving here-look elsewhere. It's a shame, but many nearby long-time homeowners and are talking about selling and getting out. We know the direction the neighborhood will take after that...
