New Mexico to receive new veterans cemeteries
New Mexico is finally in line for four new veterans cemeteries in far-flung corners of the state.

and good, but cemeteries are a permanent investment requiring "perpetual" care, maintenance and security. Our state is full of cemeteries that are not taken care of. Veterans' benefits cover many costs related to internment, but, everyone should understand that adding 4 more small cemeteries and more in the future in far-flung reaches run by the state of New Mexico is a real commitment. I don't believe our state has done a good job in the past in managing its properties and unless permanently endowed and a real commitment made and maintained from the start, I think these will end up being an embarrassment or worse. I know the Governor is trying to get some feel-good votes, but we need to be smart about this.
