Sounds like the port truck drivers are moonlighting as Mardi Gras float drivers!

If you go to New Orleans carry your gun and a stop sign.

Went to New Orleans shortly before Hurricane Katrina hit and I have to say they were the most hospitable people I have ever met. Things may have changed, I don't know. My family had an exciting and wonderful time in New Orleans. Glad we got to see it before the destruction.

What does anything you have posted above do with the fact Jody was killed. Show some respect for Jody and his family and stop all the B/S.

Thank you!!! It is sad enough when someone like Jody dies without adding to the family's grief.

New Orleans is a very dangerous town. The government and police department are totally crooked and the criminals know this. I was robbed at gun point walking three blocks from The French Quarter to my hotel on my last visit and it will be just that. My last visit!
It is sad that Katrina didn't destroy the entire cesspool.

Sorry, no disrespect intended, I was just responding to Post #2. My deepest sympathies go to Jody's family and friends, of course. This was a horrific tragedy that may be prevented with better safety regulations for floats and their design.

Lets ban floats. I agree that New O is a miserable place. 99% of the city really needed the flushing Katrina caused. should have left the dikes as they were and kept the city underwater. As far as the death, tragic and sad.

It wasn't directed at you, Taxpayer, but the brains who somehow tied Katrina and crime in New Orleans to Jody's death. My prayers and condolences to Maria and the kids, Jody was an inspiration and a good man.

Crickette, the original article is no longer available. Is this the legislator who did so much for BSTL in Congress after Hurricane Katrina?

I was really sad to hear the news. All of God's grace to his family...losing a son is a very hard situation, especially for a father who has given his life to politics, with all of the sacrifices involved. Everyone should support this family with encouragement. It is extremely hard to be a politician in today's world...it takes a lot of courage.

I found a more recent article so I understand the tragedy...nothing stated about his dad's work in Congress on behalf of the city of BSTL, though.

Dear Duh, You are so right. The Big Easy has become The Big Sleazy. Then the idiots go an elect that worthless corrupt mayor after he totally failed as a leader during and after Katrina. They deserve all the misery they have and I'd give a donation to "The Free Michael Vick" fund before I'd send N.O. a penny.

Ignorance - the state or fact of being ignorant; lack of knowledge, learning, information, etc.; The condition of being uneducated, unaware, or uninformed. Danny Wilcox's picture is next to this in the dictionary.

The people in New Orleans do not deserve this any more than the people of the coast deserved what we got. A lot of what happened is due to the lack of leadership and the ability to make sound decisions to protect the people you are sworn to protect, and if you think this is limited to New Orleans you are wrong. If I had noticed where you are from Danny I would not have bothered to respond to your stupidity. Please stay in Calif.

Dear New Orleans Residents,

Please don't judge all Californians by one person's ignorance (he's probably young and immature).

Long Beach, CA sent money and volunteers to New Orleans to help. I'm a native Californian and I loved New Orleans and its people when I visited. Four of my relatives have spent a considerable amount of time mucking out houses damaged and helping to rebuild. No human being or animal deserved the tragedy that Hurricane Katrina unleashed upon New Orleans. California is full of an eclectic mix of people from all over the world (a few are jerks), but most people are pretty nice when you get to know them. I'll never forget the kindness I received from the people of New Orleans!

You are so right. There are a lot of wonderful people in California. As a matter of fact the volunteers that helped us were from there and we still keep in touch. That was a judgemental comment that I made and I apologize. I for one am so tired of hearing negative stuff from people who heve not a clue what went on during Katrina. This forum is definately not the place for the ugly comments. The city of BSL lost a very valuable person when they lost Jody.

Taxpayer, it's like anything else, anywhere else, there are people made of gold, then there are those that we pray don't reproduce to put more scum just like themselves on the earth. It's not geographical, stupidity is a worldwide affliction for some. New Orleans had a certain charm that couldn't be found anywhere else, just like any other place has it's good and it's not so good. Thank you for an eloquently written post!
