because the one place that is large enough is owned by a slum lord that wants the person renting the space to fix it up before they move in.

So who is the slum lord or where is the building. Is there only one building in town big enough?

So is it the old Winn-Dixie by Dunbar or the old Winn-Dixie on Blue Meadow?

So? I can't ask? What tipped you off that I don't live there any more, Sherlock? The TX handle in my ISP address on the message ID? I used to live there but I forgot that the Blue Meadow road building was full of businesses.

I guess those who have lived there all their lives are the anointed ones.

Jeez. Get over your damn self.

I'll also add that Watchful, whose question you answered with civility, also did not live in the Bay, as they asked about the building.

Carry on.

Dear jjj,

Sorry you felt as if you were being answered with a rather rude tone. Let me broaden the answer given by my friend bayrat. The problem with or the lack there of, businesses (on a large scale) coming into Bay St. Louis, is because of our geography, water basically surrounds us, as you know.

Compared to Residential Zones, I don't think there's alot of room for any more Commercial Zones. The majority of Bay st. Louis is Residential.

The other reason is of course, as you put it..lol...so many of these people down here think they are the "annoited ones" and want to run things in this City, and because of who they are, they think that they do as they please.

Also let me state for the record, I do not live in Bay St. Louis either, however, I spend enough time here to know how things are. But every small city is like this. It's not just the Bay. Waveland has "Annoited Ones" as well. I think the Bay is just "picked" on more often.

Hopefully the City can atract more "movers and shackers" to the newly annexed area around I-10.
That's probably the only other options the City has at this time. Sorry for the spelling, but I think you got the "jist of it".

Well, thanks. I'm more than annoyed at your "friend" Bayrat, who appears to have some kind of martyr complex and dislikes anyone without as many spurting wounds as s/he has (unsure of Bayrat's gender, no insult intended).

I lived in the Bay 10 years. Over the course of those 10 years my wife and I supported artists when we could and bought all our art in the Bay. I would regularly buy jewelry for my wife at Quarter Moon, buy pottery at the Bay Artist Co-op, eat at Trepanis and Dock of the Bay, and gladly befriended many of these artists - many of whom made the Bay their home and turned it into the artists community that made it special, special in a way that Bayrat would probably like to maintain. When the hurricane came and went, we decided to leave. That's the way it is - I have that flexibility and decided to exercise it. I have no family there, and I did all I could, but it was time to move on. And we did so with no acrimony or ill will, and sold our house for a fair price, not asking a half mill for it. Not that I'm a martyr for doing so, but we didn't gouge anyone. I go back regularly and drop in on friends and see how their doing.

So to have someone like Bayrat give me an attitude like that is beyond annoying. I would daresay I have done more to make that community special than s/he has by simply breathing and co-existing.

But I am gone now. That's life. And if Bayrat has to show me 'tude and go on a damn plumage display about staying and how special s/he is by staying, well, then indeed s/he is living a very, very small life.

Well, thanks. Your friend Bayrat would like to paint me as a carpetbagger.

I lived in the Bay 10 years. During those 10 years we supported as many artists as we could. These were dear friends of ours. We patronized Quarter Moon and the Bay Artists Co-Op as often as we could, and our artists friends rewarded us with wonderful works of beauty, beauty we still have today in our new home. Presumably this is the sort of Bay that people like Bayrat would like to maintain and re-establish.

Then the hurricane happened, and we left. We had no family there, and I had other options, so we sold our house for a song and left. No hard feelings.

I will daresay that I have done more to maintain what Bayrat would like to retain than s/he has (no insult - I don't know Bayrat's gender). Artists make BSL what it was.

This is exactl why Bayrat's 'tude gets to me - because, on a deeper level, s/he knows that s/he is no great shakes in the scheme of things.

I honestly do not see what a grocery store in the Bay is going to accomplish. We should be more concerned with getting people out of FEMA trailers, and dependent on themselves. Do you relize that after 2 1/2 yrs some people are still having the Salvation Army pay bills for them? Makes me wanna jump up every morning and go to work just so I can still support you. Yes I live in Hancock county now but was not BORN or RAISED here.

Let's see now..........

People need food, people buy food, food is taxed, taxes help pay for services people need.

Right now those taxes are going to WAVELAND! NOT the BAY!

Not to mention the gas it takes to get from the Bay to Wal-Mart. At today's prices that could be substantial.

A sense of community - seeing your immediate neighbors. I'v even gone to Slidell and Gulfport to buy GOOD food. It is beyond absurd that we are left without one GOOD food store. I hate going to Diamondhead - gas and taxes again.

You are still useing the same amount of gas to drive 5 min's up the road. No matter what grocery store goes in you will still have to go to Walmart. No one person can honestly say they never have a need for Walmart. Would you be happier if the Bay just annexes all of Waveland. No one is going to happy with whatever the out come is. I agree that a grocery store needs to come into the area period. Don't matter if it is in the Bay or Waveland. Maybe some of the Jobless over here can find JOBS.

A grocery store would supply groceries. It would also provide jobs and taxes. It would be owned and opperated by business whose job it is to provide goods at a cost, not to provide housing or to pay ones bills. Which raises the question who's responsibility is it to provide housing and to pay bills?
Maybe you say the Government.Certainly it is not the possible investors who would open a grocery store. FEMA provided the trailer and thier bills are being paid. People have been recieving welfare from various organizations long before Katrina and will continue to as long as it is available.

Right now Wal-Mart has a monopoly on the grocery industry in the Bay-Waveland area.
They have no competition and are able to set prices as they see fit. With the addition of a large chain grocery store....good ole price wars take place and we, the consumers, reap the benefits.
It's called "economics 101" there notfromhancockcounty.
