You know, I sit here and read all of these comments and people talk shit about a job that they themselves eigther cant do, couldnt do, or are so jealous of other people that do them well and all they can do is talk shit. All that i will say is this. Yes the county has problems but there are some of us that enjoy our jobs and are proud to wear this badge of this great office. Unless you want to work for low pay, bust your ass andlove every second of it, stick to what you do and let us do our job. Lets see, you all like to shit talk sheriff mathis, chief paige, lt baker. Ok lets see, between the three of them thay have how may years of law enforcement? 20 to 30 years a piece? They must be doing something right. You all think the sheriff is doing such a bad job? You can only do as much as the county judge and commissioners will allow. Lets see how well you could do could do your job when people outside of law enforcment try to run your job and cut your budget. Grow up people this is all politics.

It seems to me that the Sheriffs Office is always wanting more pay? AS a county employee we do not have the oppertunity to work extra jobs at $25.00 hour, nore beach patrol, or nuclear plant, like Sheriffs office employees ( drive county cars home ) eat free or discounted food, so do you realy have a gripe? So stop crying. Nearly everyday I have to hear one of you crying about how miserable you are at the Sheriffs Office, so you see it all begins with yourself.
Do you put youself on the line everyday for the citizens of Matagorda County? They have to work extra jobs because the county pay sucks!!! I bet the Judge and Commissioners get a fat check, didn't they get a raise this year?? And for just sitting on the bench and making life miserable for everyone. Yes, the SO deserves more pay and good equipment...when was the last time you got called out to assist a victim, look for a lost child, helped with an auto accident, stopped a robbery? Much less what did you do when there was a disaster/hurricane? Did you send your family off and stay behind to secure the county and assist in rescue of people that stayed behind??? I thank the Sheriff and his officers for all they do for this county and Sheriff Mattis YOU WILL HAVE MY VOTE!!!

I have resided in Matagorda County only six years. After spending twenty-five years in Houston coming to Bay City was quite a change. I happen to be a big supporter of Gary Mathis whom I have known for my six years in this county. After reading teh posts in this column I seriously wonder what you are basing your opinions on. I really doubt most have aanything to back up what you say other than possibly a personel issue. Gary has and will continue to do a great job for this county. Matagorda County has far bigger issues to address such as how this county is going to come out of it's econamic stagnation and bring growth and jobs to the area. Take a look around the City of Bay City. What future do you see??
I agree with you. I think most of the stuff people have stated here stinks. Some of the sounds in this forum are infantile and "red neck". I would venture to say that they're unsubstantiated and/or biased or filled with half truths. They can say some of the most uncharitable words about people's integrity because they don't have to take responsibility for their actions or words as they hide behind an "alias". I would venture to say that some of these people may have never voted in the last election but will "b****" about the administration. It's easy to come and shoot the survivors after the battle's over. I would venture to say that some of these people have never offered one thing in the betterment of this county or offered to say to those who put their lives on the line "what can I do to help or make your life or job easier?" Yep, from what I see from this group is "its all about me....me, me, me..."

I'm glad that there are still some supporters left for Mathis, but lets get one thing straight! The man is worthless just like his Chief Deputy! Snake Bite I couldn't agree with you more truth hurts and people can't handle the truth! Funny you talk about bashing County employee's, but yet that's what a few of you have done with Orton because you think he is the one who has made these comments on topix! Posting your real name on TOPIX tell me really what does that do beside make you a TARGET! It has nothing to do with not having the guts it has to do with trying to survive in a County where there is retaliation from Law Enforcement.

Well, I read in the paper today that now we have yet another candidate for Sheriff. Aaron Green is now a candidate.Something is wrong with our sheriffs department! I have been a resident of Matagorda County all my life and I have never heard of so many people running for sheriff. Some good candidates out there also. Gus has a good resume, Miles is a prover leader, Green is a good man with experience in law enforcement, Crummett has alot of experience also. Osborne is ok, but has been out of law enforcment for some time, so im not sure about him. Mathis, no way. Take the time to do your homework. Look at the qualifications. Experience as a supervisor, training, leadership and overall ability to deal with the pressure of being a administrator and make your choice accordingly.

Miles is by far the best candidate!!! It's about time we put a TRUE christian in office, that is a proven leader. Miles has not only a strong christian faith, he has strong home and work place morals. He promotes them and lives them on a daily basis!! If you want a honest, true leader in office, Miles should be your choice too!!!

Yea Matthis has a new car, and yep, taxpayers, you footed the bill for negligence! Its time this one-term so called Sheriff took a hike! Besides, a person with a criminal record sporting 3 DWIs, should not be Sheriff anyways!

Another positive for sheriff Mathis is the fact the Man has his photos on some of his signs is clearly a more attractive sign, to me that equates to...several things. He cares about quality. And he is by the way the champion with the belt so he can shine if he chooses to. He certainly has earned that right. Haters don't understand that.

the only reason MATHIS has his picture on those signs is because he wants the public to know the difference between himself and Page.

Why not refer to the official by his name, or would that be to much like correct for you. If you are racist just say that instead of h
iding behind words indirectly that are offensive. Idiot!
