Is Matagorda County better off today then say 4 years ago? Are more burglary cases being solved? Are there more drug related arrests? Is crime down or up compared to population increases or decreases? These factors will probably determine if Mathis is running the sheriff's office in the right direction and whether or not he will be a strong candidate for re-election if he runs at all. Hopefully matagorda County is better off because that is what is important to every tax payer, whether you like the leadership or not.
You can go back and find the same quality of work 4 years ago as you can today, the leadership IS what's lacking. You need to dig deep off into the employee pool, there is where you will find your leadership answers ... no the county is not better off. really?

Well said, I believe you're right someone needs to dig deep and ask the employee's. Question is would they be honest or scared? And we are not better off! REALLY

I think somebody should ask Bill Orton to run for sheriff next time and see what he says. I've heard he plans on running for constable in Sargent, but maybe he would run for sheriff instead and he could put Mitchell in as Chief Deputy.
I do not hink so we would be right back where are now maybe worse.

I would enjoy having Miles as our Sheriff. Miles is a good man! Just someone other than the 2 jerk's we have in there now.

No, Mathis and Page are one term. Yes people wanted change but found out real quick just how big of a mistake they had made. Besides from what I have been hearing around town is that the patrol capt. is running that dept! At least thats what he is saying! Telling people that Mathis and Page are idiots.

The Patrol Captain probably is running the dept, somebody has to. Im quite sure Mathis will rally his following of hispanics and get the job done again.

Sure they are above it, why do you think the sheriff put "sheriff" on the back of his "unmarked" car? So the next time one of his own deputies pulls him over for speeding,(which happens all the time) the deputy knows that he's the sheriff and then the deputy won't pull him over, and the deputy can spare himself the cussing for pulling the sheriff over .... make sense? Fruitcake Deluxe!
