As with so many of the other reviews I too had a "greed before creed" experience with this so called animal hospital.
After arriving home from work I noticed our new 11 week old Lab puppy did not greet me at the door of the kennel as she had for the last 2 weeks. She seemed lethargic and had little energy. After taking her out I noticed blisters on the inside of her ears and at the base of her eyelids. After talking to them on the phone they told me to give her a little Karo syrup on the tip of my finger and see if she would lick it. After I called back and told them she wouldn't, they encouraged me to bring her in right away.
After 1 x-ray, a bag of fluids to prevent dehydration and keeping her overnight (til 7:30AM) they said she should be fine and could go home and the blisters were most likely going to go away in a couple days. When I picked her up I was told my final bill was $960 including the $340 I paid them before I left around midnight.
When I picked up the dog I knew she wasn't OK. I had to take her to another vet that was for sure. I called Countryside on Freeland Rd and just from what I described on the phone they said it sounded like "Puppy Strangles" and times was of the essence. Once I got her there they quickly confirmed their suspicions and confirmed it was indeed Puppy Strangles. After $160, she was on her way to recovery and after 3 weeks, she had a clear bill of health. They told me she most likely would have died if left untreated for another 24-36 hours.
I called them later that evening and told them what the other vet said and asked them why did I pay them almost $1000 if I just had to turn around and take her somewhere else 45 minutes after picking her up? Of course they tried explaining that the other vet most likely make a quick diagnosis due to what they had already ruled out. What a crock of crap!!!!!!
I expect to pay a premium because they are an emergency facility designed for after hours care but justifying an $800 difference? Especially when you didn't even fix my pups problem and sent me home saying she"ll be better in a couple days but the other vet said she probably would have died in less than 2 days if left untreated?
Unless an animal has an immediate life threatening injury such as being hit by a car, I suggest driving to Flint before I would EVER take another animal there again. I have seen other peoples posts about them pushing to euthanize animals and even sadder was a story about someone losing their pet because of them. They almost cost me my pup with their lack of ability and focus on greed.

This place is definetely in business for money only, not for helping injured animals or suffering animals. If you have $300.00 up front they will see your pet in an emergency. What is an emergency? My dog was hit by a car on a Saturday. The vets were closed but several answering machines said to cal GLPE. They were rude on the phone before they even heard the whole story. My dog's front legs were crushed and he was bleeding to death! This clinic would NOT even give me suggestions as to how I could help him being that they wouldn't consider seeing him. I explained that he was bleeding badly and in a lot of pain. THEY DID NOT CARE! They just wanted to get me off the phone because I did not have the money up front and the bank was closed until Monday. I was desperate and offered them my computer to hold until Monday. They did not care. I called the Saginaw News because I was desperate. My dog laid on my floor bleeding and in pain until Monday when other vets started calling because of the Newspaper article. He was taken in immediately. the next few months of what my dog went through are unmentionable. His pain could have been avoided if he were treated by the So Called Great Lakes Pet Emergency.

This place only cares about money and it shows. They are insensitive to the fact that you have an animal in dire need of medical attention. They talked to me like it was no big deal that my new puppy had a 50/50 chance of living. They seemed too concerned that I hurry up and make a choice of treating him for thousands of dollars or putting him down. They acted like that was an easy choice to make. They gave me very few details on his chances of making it were, just kept throwing the numbers 50/50 out there. Very vague and insensitive. They only treat if you have the money upfront. I don't know how anyone could watch an animal die if they have all of the resources and power to change that.. I would never take another animal here again.. I've dealt with vets that truly care about their patients, and I wish a Vetrinarian office would have been open, so I could have taken him there and maybe he would still be here with me :'(. I hope karma exists and I hope this place shuts down. Somebody with an actual heart needs to open up an emergency pet hospital. I am beyond disgusted. Had I known, I wouldn't have taken him here. I had limited options as it was an emergency though, and no vets were open by me. I am deeply depressed about the situation and would do anything to go back and change it. There is no good in my tragic situation with my puppy, but I hope that by reading this you can please take my advice and look into going somewhere else, so you don't make the same mistake I unknowingly made.
