Totally agree with you! We "DON'T" play now; however, since "Allison" never went further than his high school career at UHS, he's still trying to "live his dream" through every kid these days! He really needs to get a life and move on! It's 2012....not 1996 or 1997 (whichever year he played).
I know those two Allison boys were better players than half the kids that went on to play college ball. I would have had then on my team anytime. Both great great players

First day in pads today. Team looked pretty good. 28 dressed out which doesn't count freshmen or the kids coming from baseball. Can't wait to see them in the scrimmage. Go Bees!
well I guess 28 players fell to 23 players - counted dressed out today. Might have less than 20 by the end of spring practice at this rate. Oh well, I guess Smith Co's 90 plus or LA 65 plus kids are a sign of commitment. Already 5 kids standing around playing grabass claiming injuries. Same old bs, new year. Oh how on long for the days Maynard run the program. Hopefully coach will get controll of the progran before all hope is gone.

Obviously your Math is off if you had counted there were 34 dressed players. And baseball season just ended last night which should bring 4 or 5 more. And then you have Jason Jones, Jt Flowers, and Patrick Ely who are recovering from injury. So do the math correct next time. And if you could let me know who's standing around playin grabass please tell me. I watched and all injured players were watching on and enthusiastically cheering on their teammates. Maybe you should get your facts straight next time.

Which players do you think stood out in spring practice so far?

Haven't gotten to watch a lot, but Connor York seems to be on target again this year. Any idea who the receivers will be? Dilldine should be a force at linebacker and solid performance on the line from Matthew Collier.

Last thing the team needs is the parents griping about the team and the coaching already when we're two days into spring practice. They finally have a good group of kids out and enough coaches on staff to work with them. Let the coaches and the trainers do their jobs and you do yours (support the team). I hear Maynard coaches up the road and they take transfers there if you hate it here so bad.

So true and the players standing around watching aren't all injured. Most of them are incoming freshmen that aren't allowed to dress out for spring practice since they aren't officially in high school yet. Heard there are 15-20 of them.

What is wrong with Ely? Heard he had a strained back but he was dressed out Monday. Somebody said an ankle injury? Strong group of talented kids from what I've seen.

We had 3 or 4 new faces at the booster club meeting tonight which was great. I know a couple of parents had to work, so they couldn't be there. There will be another booster club meeting May 22 at 5:30. Just as it takes all the boys to make a team, we need one parent of each player at these meetings if we are going to help our boys and Upperman football succeed. These meetings are important and it is going to take all the parents we can get in order to raise the money we need so desperately. For the a/c alone, we need $27,500. The boys need new pads -$5 or $6,000.$1500 for pre-game meals and food for the refs, money to pay the refs, workout clothes and cleats for the boys, etc. Ben could be charging every player $150-$200 to play in order to pay for equipment, etc, but he's not. Regardless of anyone's financial status, if a kid wants to play, he will play. That's where we come in as a booster club. We need help raising money for our kids. What better way to show your support for your child and UHS football. We need field signs sold, program ads sold, hole sponsors for the golf tournament, donated prizes for the golf tournament, engraved bricks to be sold, or just plain donations. You don't have to be a parent of a player to be at booster club meetings. If you want to see UHS succeed, you are invited to help those of us that do too. If you are a parent that works crazy hours and would like to help sell anything I mentioned earlier, call or text Ben to let him know and we will get the forms to you. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

actually my math was right on. 23 dressed by practices end. Both first and second string tailbacks were missing, Withers is not Ely's backup, the kid they call Florida is and he was missing, some kid they call "Smiley" who starts was missing. That's 4 no shows. One kid hurt from motor bike accident, Ely and Jones hurt from playing pickup basketball, and big gonna be soph. is hurt with some injury and stays like 15 min of practice before going home. That's 4 no shows, 4 non football injuries and to top it off name the 5 badeball players coming out? I can think of only 2. I also only counted 17 freshman. Someone needs to get controll or this tallented JR class headed by Connor York will be lost.- know my kid is there and won't be allowed to miss.

was my math off today when 16 kids dressed in pads for practice? Yes, you heard me right 16. 28 Monday, 23 Tuesday , and 16 Wednsday. Her is all the ones my kid said missed. Senoirs: 5 no shows.Juniors: 11 no shows. Sophomores: 5 no shows. Freshman: 10 no shows. That's not counting 1 kid stading there watch practice but hurt. That's not counting 3 baseball players who have yet to make it over to practice even though their season is over. So instead of 16 kids dressed, their should be 41. And 21 freshaman standing there watching gaining knowledge for the future. This program stinks, the comitment of the players, parents, and community stinks too. Go ask Ben, judging from his end of practice speech, he has about had it too.

Only 20 today at spring practice not a good sign and who are the baseball players you are talking about?

16, not 20 practiced today according to earlier post. Peyton Land, Mathew Taylor, Jarred Case are suppose to be playing. Two of the three haven't played before.

Isn't there some players from baseball that got released. Earlier in the season how are they looking?

2 kids came earlier but are projected second stringers. What I don't get is, why there are 30 eighth graders playing like every year, then down to 20 as freshman, teens as juniors and 6-7 as seniors. I can't remember the last football senior class to have 15_20 seniors. Why does this happen?

Who wasn't there today? I saw York, Butler and Dilldine still out on the field when I got my son. That's three of the rising juniors. How many are there? The leaders on the team need to call the kids out who aren't showing and the coaches need to make them run or something.

Just so you people who thinks every good team in 3a football is so much bigger of a school than Upperman is and thats why they have 80-90 players and always beat us......here are some facts off tssaa website: Alcoa Tornadoes 551 students Smith County Owls 540 students Upperman Bees 635 students Westmoreland Eagles 535 students Pearl Cohn Firebirds 659 students
Milan Bulldogs 639 students
Jackson Central Merry Cougars 629 students
Austin East Roadrunners 601 students

look at our enrollment compared to some of the top football teams in the state in 3a. Why do we never have more than 40 players out for the team?

Gabe Hermon , Gabe luna, Sylvester Luna,Jason Jones, Joe Jones, Flowers, Cody Mayberry, Brewington, Patric Ely,Robert Stephons, Jason Freddle, kid they call Flordia,Devon Townsend, and about 15 more sophomores and freshman I cant think of off top of my head. Makes the parents who come to every booster club meetings and they kids that come to every practice sick to see this type sorry attitude by players and parents. players should be at every practice. if they are injured, truely injured, they still have to be there and can watch. Makes me sick to know they ones who are trying will go no where cause of these other kids not showing.parents, if you kid is on the list...its on you too.....make your kid stick to his commitments.
