I think they are over rated. No state champs under there belt yet with some of the talent that has came out of that school. They dont work with the football program and dont want them to play, even had a kid talked into not playing but glad he changed his mind. They are working with baseball now so that there kid can make the team. Ask some of the kids that play for Bobby they dont even like him, but still like the game...

I agree and if the principle had a spine he would either discipline McWilliams for telling kids not to play football or be fired he he continues.

You really think he cares about the kids accomplishing anything after high school? He just wants to win. I don't blame him, if I were a coach I'd probably do the same thing.

Don't get on here being judgemental calling everyone on here low life losers when they are just speaking their minds.

They are good coaches? One of best programs in south? The girls can't even win there own district. Livingstone dominates them. Heck, there are smaller schools around here better like Jackson county, Clark Range and Red Boiling. As far as the boys teams, the football team as bad as they are have sent more to college to play than basketball. I hate to tell people but if your a 6"1 to 6"3 w hite boy, you got no future in basketball. And yes if he does tell kids just to focus on basketball and not play football, he should be fired. Just look at the Taylor kid, 6' 225, looks way more like a linebacker than a shooting guard.

Look at Trousdale county, Livingstone, Signal Mountain, York........Smith County. All small county country schools that are awesome in football and baseball but struggle in boys basketball outside the upper cumberland. They win state or get close in football but rarely even make state in boys basketball. In boys, your never gonna compete with inner city schools in basketball. That's why you don't see guys named Bubba and Junior in the NBA. Focus on baseball and football and be good at what you can be. Future in college basketball for small town redneck boys is just a dream. And I don't see any Larry Birds walking the halls at UHS at 6'11.

ok so why does he play his kid more than any other freshman even though there are 3 freshman way better than his?Why do I see the same kids at livingstone jackson county and York who play both basketball and football, and yet he dont allow it? Really physical teams always give are pencil thin basketball team problems. Football would help with toughness. He is just a j erk keeping all other sports at UHS down and all while not be that good of a program himself. Check out his record outside the upper cumberland.

This is classic small town sports. The McWilliams are dedicated - or so it seems to me - to the Baxter youth in this community. You take the bad with the good. The McWilliams' boys may get their unfair share of court time but two of them are good enough to rightfully be out there. There are insider advantages everywhere in the real world. I tell my sons if they want to play (whatever sport it is) they have to be better than the average kid out there. We are not from this small town, we don't have the "I grew up with your Daddy" connections. But that's okay because I believe my boys have learned a valuable lesson. If you want it bad enough you do it the old fashioned way - you earn it.
There are undoubtedly politics at play here - they exist everywhere but Baxter has something special when it comes to sports - particularly basketball. Ultimately, the focus should be on academics and scholarship and the sports' scholarships should be a hopeful second because there are no guarantees.
I agree with letting them play other sports though. There is definite pressure on the players not to play other sports or other travel basketball leagues. However, I have been impressed by the McWilliams and what they have been able to do.

I agree with small time politics and pushing threw it because that is life. What I don't agree with is Mcwilliams as above average coaches. Girls have had more tallent come threw in last 10 years thhan any team around with no rings. JC has owned the girls. Livingstone had owned the boys. Not top tier teams in area much less state. Now the baseball team is. A different story. Specially in past.

To be a high school athlete you have to be dedicated. No Im not saying its right to play only one sport but if you as an athlete want to focus more and be more productive at a sport yes, you need to eat, live, breathe it. I dont think the McWilliams come out and say no you cant play this sport but I think they do hint at if you want to possibly get a college career out of it you need to eat, live, breathe basketball. I mean look at the many great potential we have that actually got OUT! of little Baxter and Cookeville because of the McWilliams pushing them and helping them make it to get college scholarships. I think you need to step back and look how the McWilliams help our youth as coaches and teachers. thanks...

I agree. Ether team wins district year in and out, much less state. There far from elite like Livingston, Clarkrange, or Jackson Co. Seems like there taking away from the other programs just to squeeze out one or two extra wins. That's wrong to do to the kids. I wouldn't mind seeing the run outta here. Both have me first attitudes.
