How is it that some young people and foreign Nationals receive hundreds of dollars each month in stamps and EBT and many elderly people drawing 4-600.00 each month are only eligible for 10-20
dollars each month?

Also why are foreign nationals /illegal immigrants able to work without paying taxes and making full use of our medical facilities
and our systems of financial aid.

Finally why are farmers and contractors allowed to hire these illegals and not take income tax,FICA (SS) out of their checks?

Most people engaged in construction farming and other industries are "conservatives" until you start talking about doing away with their cheap labor.

Ironic, no?

Have wondered that for a long time myself. Seems if you are not an American born citizen, you are embaraced and afforded all the benefits usually reserved for citizens. Other nations dont support those that are in their country illegally. Usually they get jail time or kicked out. It is not mean or not compassionate to make others obey the same law as Americans. It is obscene and wrong to take from our citizens, and give them so little while taking care of people breaking the law. Tired of hearing that we are better than other nations and are more compassionate, so we help others. Start here at home first, then we can help others. We have people homeless, hungry, not able to get medicine, and jobless. They should be our first priority.

I am sick of seeing women with cell phones and nails and hair done and paying for food with a welfare card. Fix your own hair and nails and you can buy some food.

I agree, I don't think people who are here illegally should be able to benefit from our system. I do think that is just one area our system is flawed.

I am a single mom w/ kids trying to make it. I do work, and I do get benefits. I do my own nails(quite well, ty!) only had my hair done by someone else once in the last 6 years and it was a gift paid by someone else. My cell phone is a prepaid $45/month phone. I won't not have a cell phone, especially being alone w/ kids. I try to look nice when I go out. I won't go out looking like I just rolled out of bed, but you wouldn't know my (and the kids) clothes came off the clearance rack/goodwill/resale shop.

I know people are taking advantage of the system, but sometimes what appears to be, isn't.

I am with you maggie. I am disabled single mom of 2 still at home. My sister cuts my hair and i do my own nails also. I always have shopped at thrift stores; love the Mission and Goodwill. I am also a White Female. I taught my son how to shop for clothes and he always wears name brand clothes. cant tell they came from a secondhand shop. I dont own a car. Too see me and the kids you would never know are struggles. I thank god for the foodstamps or our family wouldnt eat.

People need to stop assuming stereo types; and i think even if you are here illegally; I would hope that the least america can do is help feed every human being. Do you realize how much we americans already spend on food for 3 worlds countries. We are so pre occupied in sending our money to help people out of the country that we forget about the people that are already here for what ever reason.

Immigrant workers here in baxley are very important to our economy. The farmers wouldn't be able to farm without them. Our farmers are not rich. The migrant workers spend what money they have here in our community. I sleep better knowing that everyone in baxley will go to sleep with food. No matter how you got here.

To the people that struggle and have problems. They need help. But when you get all the benefits and don't work. But then you have your boyfriend living with them and they won't get married. They get welfare, food stamps, and free medical. The boy friend has a job and they live better than most. Really makes me sick. But for the ones struggling. I say great. Just don't come up to me with food stamps and a 400.00 cell phone. Nails and hair from a beauty salon and act like all is well. Never had any and I struggled and made it fine.

And why are these women's "Baby Daddies" not supporting their children? I am tired of seeing these people beat the system, but if anyone complains to the state agencies about these "cheaters", they only reply: "It is against people's privacy to check whether the claims are legitimate."

And Sophie, for once I have to agree with you about the illegals; and the farmers and other employers who really use these people for their own benefit!!!

God help us out of this mess-I always believed that the laws of immigration were in black and white: "If you are not legal in this country, you are an illegal and breaking the law, meaning you are a criminal."

If a man and woman bring a child into this world they should be responsible for that child. It is not my job or anyone else to provide them with food and such things.

If they do not carry out their responsibility they should be charged with child neglect and sent to prison.

These illegals run around here working under the table drawing benefits and in general using the system. This should be stopped in it's tracks.

If an employer hires an illegal or anyone else and fails to report and withhold income tax they should be charged with tax evasion and suffer the consequences.

For the person that said the farmers are "poor" what planet did you come from? The famers live in 300000.00 homes and drive 50 thousand dollar pickups. Most of them are against bailouts but they are happy to accept Government subsidies.

Sophie what if one of the parents loose a father to an accident and the mother is left alone. Then, I guess she and the kids should be just thrown in a ditch and forgotten. For a person to be in the military you sure have a problem thinking before you speak. I can see you really look every situation over before you open your mouth. There are lots of situations that are needed to help people. Sophie as far as the illegal people in this county and others. Drive by the homes of people in the city and you will see them working in their yards and I am sure you know a lots of them sophie. They are elderly and depend on these people to help them out. As far as the farmers in the county. Don't talk about them with your mouth full...lol.

your are misinformed sophie. very few farmers in this county are rich. they live in very modest homes. The Median household income in appling is $36,000 and the Median home property cost is $86,000. per 2010 census. I have never saw a 300,000 dollar home in baxley. We all know that most rednecks here in baxley pay more for a vehicle than their own homes. Baxley is a very poor county.

Farmers are essential to our county's income. They pay the migrant workers under the table for a variety of reasons. Not saying it is right but the illegals cant pay taxes for the obvious reasons. But they do spend their money here in our county and pay taxes on their purchases. Thats better than nothing.

Illegals are human beings and need food just like the rest of us. No matter how they got here; we as Americans need to make sure every child, woman and man have food.

In your theory me as a disable war veteran should be charged with child neglect because I don't have enough money to feed my children. And NO my kids daddy does not pay child support because he is dead.

I agree men should pay child support. Most due but don't make enough money to make sure the kids are fed. and the ones that dont because they dont want to; we do have laws that will send them to jail. but even with that it won't put food in the mouths of their children.

I am a christian and would never want to see hungry people here or anywhere in america. It is every able bodied persons responsibility to help feed every human being.

You can't fit this whole topic into a nice clean box. It's not black or white. There are many variation of circumstances that humans need help. Some humans take advantage of the system but in whole it helps many that need it.

I come from the old school. We did not have all these socialist programs when I was a child. We worked at any job we could get.
So take you whining and complaining some place else.

Americans in general have gotten soft and lazy. If they are able to work and choose not too I say let them go without.

Yes, I have seen a lot of expensive houses in the city limits and also in the country. Don't tell me about the "poor farmers." They work hard, as everyone else who works does; but it is still not right for the farmers to not have to pay income taxes for the illegal workers.--And have you ever seen the "homes" that the illegals have to live in? They pile up in one house or mobile home, and a pile of them live together! If the air conditioner does not work, they hang out at WalMart-they send most of their money home and get freebies here!!

And about the child who may lose the father, and he can't support the child if he is dead: Do you not know about the Social Security Administration's Survivor's Benefits that are available? I was talking about the sorry baby daddies who do not take care of the babies--seems the same thing is recycled through the generations--and I am talking about every race!!

well said RR. These people just do not want to get up at six and go out and find a job or go to a job.

For my part they cam go without.

Only one I would help survive is alex gator. We need alex gator to use as a bad example so we can show the deadbeats how not to live.:)

Sophie, I talked with a few farmers the other day and they told me to tell you they would gladly let you take their debt and the next time you are waiting for that check in the mail eating a twinkie. Just remember some of those taxes they paid in at the end of the year is the reason you get a check and that twinkie in your mouth was put there by them also. They so would like to meet you in person sophie. They think you are crazy also....lol.

I know those farmers live on the edge of financial disaster.

I have tears running down my cheeks as I contemplate their precarious
position.

Why would they like to meet me alex gator?

Now you really have me nervous. A trained killer after me and a bunch of mad farmers. Lord have mercy. I'm taking the first bus out.

No sophie, As they were laughing. It was more like who is this crazy woman, I would like to meet her still laughing because no one can apparently be that stupid. Then they proceeded to tell me the rest about your pension and the twinkies. So sophie no one wants to hurt you. They just couldn't believe you are really that crazy. Because without them you would be mighty hungry right now. One guy said she claims to be military as he was laughing. Then if she ever left the states she should know like, I did when, I served we need farmers. Because without them we would be like a third world country. He came home and bought land and started farming after he saw the poverty in other countries. He said, he always wanted to know his kids and every other kid in this country had food to eat. He also said you were no more military than his cows in his field and he was still laughing as he said all this. He says you are an apparent imposter and he would love to meet you. Nothing ugly. Just funny to him.
