I just thought I'd put this out there. Me and a bunch of my friends were talking not too long ago and we realized that there is nothing to do in this town for the younger kids. Most towns have a theater or bowling alley...or something. Baxley...nothing. The only thing the kids have to do is hang out with friends, get into trouble, or experiment with drugs. We had a skatepark coming along nicely but everyone said the city tore it down. Can we make a small attempt at something? Anything?
just curious

There are no places in this town outside of the schools and churches for any age group! No theater, bowling alley, skating rink...

There are several negative results:

Our youth (and adults) turn to drugs and alcohol for recreation!

The lack of activities leaves the television as the only form of recreation, leading to obesity, bordom and depression!

Our youth move or go to college and do not return!

It is fine to keep our small town small. This town will dwindle down to the pillheads and criminals if we do nothing to make our next generation want to stay or return after military/college.

Instead of waiting for people to offee you something, why not start something? Start your own basketball team (or volleyball, streethockey, tennis, soccer, etc.). Volunteer with nonprofit groups, climb trees, make forts, play in the dirt, take up a hobby, do some homework, make your own slip n slide, cut the grass, wash the car,....

Do something good and take pride in it.

the reason there is nothing in this town for teens...certain people have the permits for a movie theatre, bowling alley,etc..think theyre afraid to do anything because the church community would have a few words to say keep in em in church and kids will thrive?????

There is no law that I know of that requires anyone to funish the public with recreation. I really get tired of people saying teens don't have anything to do. There is activities through the school and churches that will keep kids involved if they would get involved. It's just many want to get high and blame it on something or someone else without taking responsibility for their actions. Likewise for some adults that want to party all the time. The world would be a much better place if people would take responsibilty for their actions and change. I am tired of my tax money going to pay for unwed mothers and their kids. The father's should be required to work on the streets if they can't get a job to support their kids.

Farmers are screaming for help and can't get it. There is vegatables going to waste in the fields because nobody wants to work to get them harvest. What does that tell ya. To much free money around and two many sorry individuals around that want everything give to them. I have to work for what I get. Everybody else should have to do the same. If you need money, get you sorry ass out there and find a job. There are plenty of them out there but be forewarned, you might have to sweat a little bit for it.
