I do not smoke, but feel it should be up to the business owner if they allow smoking in their establishment.

How is that working out? I don't know anybody that has tried the E-cig. does it help with the cravings. I smoke, can't quite quit - what is the expense? does it work?

Thanks

When I used to go to bars - I did so that I could smoke and drink and my kids were not affected. Pretty some some jerk will ban alcohol form bars as well. Then what is the point? Smoking sucks, hard to get rid of but what is one to do when all the bars quit allowing you to smoke. I know I know just quit smoking - if it were all that easy.

Accounts of e-cigs vary. Apparently the products do as well, which is one reason there is opposition to them. Since the manufacturers successfully sued to avoid classification as drug delivery devices--the mimickry of smoking was enough to get them classed as tobacco products--there is far less quality control than would otherwise have been required.

Levels of nicotine and purity of the product are allowed to be less precise. I've read accounts that say virtually all of them were found likely to leak, which can be a problem since nicotine can be absorbed through the skin (think patch) as well as for the damage to belongings or the simple need to clean up any case you might carry the things in.

They are not to be marketed as smoking cessation products, which may account somewhat for all the shills and trolls spamming discussion boards like the one here, linking to sites where you can buy them.

The post above, at least, only touts them as something you can do in venues where smoking is prohibited. That is something that varies from location to location, though. If you are thinking of going with one for that reason, look into the reliability of the specific company as much as may be, but also check into the local laws. Many places specifically include e-cigs in their bans, and others just say use of any tobacco product. Since the manufacturers sued to be known as tobacco products, they may have placed themselves outside with the regular cigarettes in you area.

There are several threads on this forum relating (by intent--once the thread starts who knows where it will be hijacked to) to e-cigs if you want to see what the people on Topix have to say about them.

One plus is that you can select, to an extent, how much nicotine you get per puff.

One minus is that once you begin using them it apparently begins to require far more suction than a regular cigarette in order to get a puff from them.

There is a thread on that (my fault) and it used to offer a connection to info on the research. I don't know if it still does.
