If the school takeover effort is taking credit for improved scores, that's fine, but I can't help but believe that less poverty in the area is the real reason for improved scores. I’ve seen info indicating 3-yr olds from non-poverty families have a stronger vocabulary than parents of impoverished kids. So if there’s less poverty in the area after Katrina, it stands to reason better scores are resulting from less poverty in the area. Are there any statistics available on the change in percentage of those on meal-assistance for pre and post Katrina?
