We were trying to drive Interstate 10 between Baton Rouge and Lafayette when we were caught in traffic around 5:15. We were way past Grosse Tete and rumors were that there was a 7 car accident on "the bridge" (I assume in Lafayette) with fatalities and we were trapped in traffic for 4 hours before we finally were able to move the 500 yards to the exit we were nearest. There was a billboard that mockinly said "If you flew Lafayette, you'd be home by now."

I cannot find any information about this accident at all and the reported incident in the above article doesn't sound like the one we encountered.

We ended up heading back to Baton Rouge to find a hotel room but everything was full because of the LSU game. We then took 190 (I believe) to Kinder and stayed there overnight.

Can anyone tell me what the details of this accident were? The police were no help at all and were ticketing people for using the right lane to get to the exit. It was a nightmare.

The accident closed both east and westbound sides of the interstate. I saw part of it happen. I was traveling east bound and saw a car roll across the median to the other side. A tanker truck was on fire and a car (possibly a van) also rolled off to the side in the other direction. It was horrible. I was able to turn around by driving across the median. Took me 5 hours to get home from Lafayette.

We were trying to head home and was coming from San Antonio, we were 11 miles from the baton rouge exit, when we saw the black smoke and came to a stop. we sat there for 4 hours, before the radio said it would be another 4 more. we cut across and headed the back was on the old interstate and got a room in hammond.
