School Board Mum on PCCHS Takeover

School Board Mum on PCCHS Takeover

There are 27 comments on the www.2theadvocate.com story from Feb 23, 2008, titled School Board Mum on PCCHS Takeover. In it, www.2theadvocate.com reports that:

After a tumultous week during which the state’s Recovery School District took over Pointe Coupee Central High School, members of the parish School Board conducted a brief meeting Thursday and quickly adjourned.

But as Thursday’s board meeting began, board President James Cline announced that, “as recommend by Superintendent Dan Rawls,” he was requesting that four of 15 agenda items be deferred, including discussion of Pointe Coupee Central. No board member voted against the recommendation.

All board members met with State Education Superintendent Paul Pastorek at Pointe Coupee Central High last weekend to discuss its status after chalking up six consecutive years of unacceptable academic performance. All board members also attended one or more meetings of the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education and its committees as the responsibility for operating Pointe Coupee Central High School changed hands.

Good job Bado! Like I said you will have NO CONTROL of this charter school and EVERYTHING I said WILL come true about how this affects "our LHS"! Good luck fixing this mess! By the way, how do you plan on fixing overcrowding at LHS and only 525 students at a PC Central school that can hold 1300? I know what most of the board mwmbers want, and it is NOT to build another LHS! Come on, the writting is on the wall!!!!!!

Bado,

Had you spent more time doing YOUR JOB as board president rather than posting on this forum, it's possible that the board could have presented the Super with its OWN charter school proposal.

Good job, Bado. You showed the Super who is boss of this parish JUST LIKE YOU SAID YOU WOULD, didn't you?

Our school board president is stating on the other sites that this will be a good thing for our parish. Test scores will rise.

I was wondering if this school would be added in to the test scores of other schools in the parish. I think that because this school is listed on a third party program the scores would not get considered. I can understand this happening, too many children are dropping out of classroom teaching and going to GED because of their age and the learning progression. THIS IS HORRIBLE and the school system is standing behind this 100%. What these kids dont know is that most jobs now adays are asking for more than a high school diploma, and who is going to hire a child with a ged at age of 17 for a decent job. I heard that one child is going to get his GED next year he is 15 in the 8th grade and failing. His mom told him that he has to pick a trade either nursing aide or agriculture. WOW this finishes school...no wonder why our nursing homes are failing so much with the care of our elderly or sick. IT ALL BEGINS AT HOME...I just cant understand how the school board is behind this GED thing because of age and failure. What is this world coming to???

But what he does'nt realize is that these kid's will now be able to go to livonia and he will have to make space for them. So I ask him how is this going to raise our scores. He needs to better understand a charter before he starts mouthing off.

You know how people talk, I heard today that the School Board is seeking to make Valverda school prek-7th grade, which will make more room for the kids that are coming in from PC Central. And, I heard from this same person that the school board is going to make sure that the kids that live out of the district/parish are going to the right schools. The other day , I was talking to a young man in the 7th grade at LHS he told me he lived in EBR parish and his mom brought him to school everyday.HOW can this be. I see people parked all over the sidewalks up and down streets waiting for the bus to pick up kids, dont these kids have a regular bus route. I have never seen anything like this.

Valverda has no room to expand! Kids do come from outside of the parish along with outside our district! Now, my tax money that is suppose to go to PC parish children is paying for other parish's trash, as long as they can play sports! All you have to do is check out the test scores at Livonia the last couple of years!

THE ONLY SCORES BADO CAN UNDERSTAND ARE FOOTBALL, BASEBALL OR BASKETBALL SCORES. ACADEMIC SCORES ARE SECONDARY TO SPORTS.

To the MOTHER who drops her children off on the side of the road to go to False River Academy. Seems as though you have enough money to send your kids to private school, DONT you have enough money and sense to get your kids off the streets (that should be illegal) and drop them off at school yourself. I see so many of this happening to these children. BADO, OPEN YOUR EYES, THESE KIDS NEED TO GET OFF OF THE STREETS AND HAVE A CENTRAL LOCATION FOR BUS PICKUPS AND NOT EVERYWHERE IN THIS PARISH AND OTHER PARISHES. In West Baton Rouge parish it is illegal for a child to cross the street to and from a bus. If caught the bus driver is ticketed.

after all that is said the decision isn't final and no one Is trying to hear how the students feel. the only thing that matters to then is money and how much fame they can gain trying to takeover pcchs. as a student of pointe coupee central high school, I think that we all should come to pointe coupee central high school , because we have more space ,and also it would take them 40 million to build another school in Livonia and really nothing to fix one thing at our school and that is our track field other than that our school I in tip top shape. another thing is that we don't care if they bring the teachers from Livonia we just want to be a more comfortable envoirment..
