Well, I know nothing but what I've been told, but here goes: I live near Sterlington and Dr. Jones treated my family when I was a kid. I always heard that he would do adoptions without paperwork or legalities. As long as all parties agreed, the baby was born and the birth certificate would be in the names of the receiving parents--no mention of biological parents. No trail.

He was a real character. When he was younger, he had an airplane and would fly to different places around here treating people. One of my relatives had an elderly family member in the Sterlington Hospital and Dr. Jones ordered yet another X-ray. She asked him why. His reply on the way out of the room was "For the Hell of it!" (He wasn't being mean, just didn't want to discuss his reasons) He once refused to remove a BB from a dangerous place on a boy (from a local rough family). Dr. Jones wanted some tests run first. The boy's dad came back with a gun and made him take it out right then. Dr. Jones had a pasture and stables just a hundred yards from my home. He kept horses, peacocks and some little deer-like animals from Africa. When my brother would get sick, my mom would call him and he'd meet us at his office at night to treat him; no problem. I loved trick-or-treating at his house--his wife would have a whole bunch of popcorn balls and other treats to give out. He was a good-old country doctor.

You might check the birth announcements from the Monroe News-Star newspaper starting at that date. The paper is still in production in Monroe, Louisiana--the Ouachita Parish Library's Genealogy Room may have records of the back issues.

Yes thank you Mark you are correct, there is no trail. My friend has Nothing.. The birth certificate only said her adopted parents names, and she has been searching for 25 years. It is hard she needs her medical info and also deserves to know about her birthparents. This is not the only adoption there are many more he handled same thing they too are either searching for their parents or child to no avail. Thanks for your input and info, we appreciate it.

I was born at Sterlington General and adopted out by Dr. Jones at 3 days old in 1968. My birth mother was an unmarried teenager who lived nearby and hid her pregnancy with baggy and loose clothing and was admitted by Dr. Jones with a stomach ailment as an excuse for her parents. A volunteer at the "hospital" (more clinic than hospital) was my adopted Grandmother who connected me up between Dr. Jones my adopted parents. The bill of service and birth certificate both show me as physically born to my adoptive mother. There is no record of my being adopted at all so that legally I can't really claim to be adopted. My birth mother had some type of complication and was briefly re-admitted and a bill was generated again with my adoptive mothers name on it but in parentheses next to it was the first name of my birth mother. As an adult I was able to locate her and my biological father as well. I too felt I needed this information to fill a hole but used medical information as an excuse. In a few words I discovered this hole to be already filled by my adoptive family and what I really felt was curiosity about who I was and where I came from. My feelings towards Dr. Jones are entirely positive. He gave me a family who wanted me and loved me as their own to the point of my adoptive mother often telling me 'I feel as though you were born from me'. Maybe some resent Dr. Jones but there is something to be said for his methods. He helped many girls who otherwise might have had abortions, he saved reputations, he gave second chances, and he both created and enhanced many families. No doubt there were some that had bad outcomes or sad stories of abuse or some other negative but I would advise that finding out who you come from changes little to nothing about yourself.

That didn't work out. Go to facebook.com and find "Sterlington Louisiana Adoptions" page. That's where people meet on this subject.

Tried to message privately to you but maybe my browser is not allowing it. Are your questions able to be posted here? Someone directed me to the Facebook Sterlington adoption page and I have viewed that but prefer not to post there as I'd like to remain anonymous.

Anyone trying to dig out old info should just stop. If you've had loving parents you should not even feel any difference about them. This man did you a favor. Otherwise you might have been flushed down the toilet with a coat hanger. Realize people who adopt kids want them more than anything in the world.

It's their history they are looking for, and there could be medical reasons for the search. Then again, maybe it means more to them than it would to you. I respectfully suggest that they do what they want with no interference.

Not all people that adopt do so for the right reasons.

You shouldn't make such broad statements, clearly you
are uninformed.

That's such a nasty comment, and uncalled for obviously people need to know where they came from, and their medical history regardless of how good of a life they had. Surely all of the birthmother's haven't just all vanished, where are they and why don't any of them come forward, that's what I want to know you know at least one of them has to think of their children and wonder where they are, if anyone can help this lady please do it.

Yes, ZahraLA, Documentarian's comment was uncalled-for, but not unexpected. I'm old enough to remember when America was a free, live-and-let-live nation. Now, we are on the web, overrun with little Hitlers who would dictate every detail of everyone else's life. If a person wants to find out who their birth parents were, I fully applaud their effort. If a person doesn't care one way or the other, I wouldn't bother them with it. As we have repeatedly stated, sometimes the info is actually needed for medical purposes. If I get any more facts on Dr. Jones's adoption process, I will post it for everyone.
