Mike is the only one here who could say he's in a denomination that goes back unbroken to the time of the apostles.
I don't believe the church/denomination matters to God. There is no one true church/denomination. They all have imperfections even the Church of Christ.
It must hurt the people at Martinsville Church of Christ to know that they are held to the same standard they hold other Christians to. It must hurt them to know they owe their beliefs and doctrines to men like Campbell and Stone. Without those men and others the Martinsville Church of Christ wouldn't be there. The Robertson family would have to find another way to snooker people and live off others money.
It matters not what you "believe" unless you are saying "Credo in unam Deum..."

There is no such thing as a denomination. There is the church that Jesus started and then there are the non-Cathoiic eccLesial communities., all with only a part of the truth.
Does it matter to God. Of course it does. He wouldn't have sent his son to die for us and to build his church which is th pillar of truth..
Whoever hears his Church hears him. Do you hear his Church?
Jesus is the pillar upon which the church is built, not the other way around!

Psalm 118:22
The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone;

Who did they reject? Answer Jesus

But Jesus looked at them and said, "What then is this that is written:'THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED, THIS BECAME THE CHIEF CORNER stone'?

I am so tired of you and Mark twisting the scripture by trying to give the power and authority to someone other than who it belongs to!

Eph 2:20 Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets-the scripture attest to this. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself.

The church does not rule over or own Jesus- He rules over and owns the church for we are his possession. We are a blood bought people, neither Peter nor the pope died for us Jesus did.

I am so tired of hearing your personal interpretation of a Catholic book. It only means something to yourself.

Who said Jesus is not the cornerstone?

Jesus created the Church. A visible Church with a hierarchy. It has to be the CC because it was the only one for 1500 years.

You must agree with BW about Paul. He contradicts Jesus according to you

Paul said what?

I am writing you about these matters, although I hope to visit you soon.

But if I should be delayed, you should know how to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of truth.

It can't be your Bible Church. It was created 10 years ago.

Did the pope die for your sins? If he did not, then how can he forgive your sins?

To the bible thumpers who are blasting on the Catholics. Don't you people know that even Clement quoted from books you do not accept in your Bible today. If you are going to have a dog fight at least bring a pitbull instead of a poodle. Does Clement disavow his letter to Corinth as being scripture? It was read in the churches in and around Corinth for a long time. I hate to take sides here but the Catholics got this fight although when we boil it all down you both lose the fight because you simply cannot prove god exist. What about the so called epistles of the apostles and disciples not found in your bibles today?????? Is the letter from the Laodicea mentioned in Colossians 4:16 literally "from" or "out of" Laodicea? Hello Johnny!!!!??? You people are way over your heads with this. You don't even know why some books were cast aside and how and by who. Chalk this one up to the Catholics. Here is another problem. Just what constitutes good literary quality? Who decides, why???????? Moreover, why can't you see the Catholics points on this. Granted I disagree with you all but at least they come prepared. Is it not true that some books were disputed while others were included????? Hello Johnny!!! There were books accepted as inspired new testament literature not found in your bibles today but were in some Bible copies back then. Surely a man like Johnny Robertson knows this. If you accept some "church fathers" as authoritative proof to show this or that book belongs in what you call the "new testament" then why is their evidence for the old testament Apocrypha not accepted?????? I could keep going but the Catholics done wupped your butts already.

Why do you continue to reply to something with something that has no relevance to what you replied to.

God had sent Jesus to forgive sins, but after his resurrection Jesus told the apostles, "‘As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.’ And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them,‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained’" (John 20:21–23).(This is one of only two times we are told that God breathed on man, the other being in Genesis 2:7, when he made man a living soul. It emphasizes how important the establishment of the sacrament of penance was.)

Johnny's Restoration Movement have theology that is based on the belief that all the early churches recorded in the New Testament writings adhered to a rigid worship format that was standardized across all congregations. He can't prove this to save his life. No variation from this format was tolerated according to Johnny's belief. Odd how his Church on Starling resembles others. Pew benches and all. I bet he stole that idea from the Baptist. What a joke!

You are probably not aware Alexander Campbell, Commander in Chief, founder and darling of the Church of Christ denomination issued his own New Testament in which he left out words or changed those with which he disagreed. It is called The Living Oracles. The word "church" does not appear in Campbell's New Testament!

Larry, I know for a fact that Martinsville Church of Christ uses hymns that were written by Baptists, Methodist, Anglicans and Presbyterians. They are using a Bible put together by Catholics and songs written by denominational composers.

And how do they learn the tunes? Sight reading is a skill few possess. Are they using The Sacred Harp method? The funny thing is many many hymns from the earliest Christian centuries which were written exclusively for the human voice without instrumental accompaniment still exist. You would think the CofC would be using those. One can even find lots them on YouTube!!! If you want to hear some just look for the group called Ensemble Organum.
