You folks continue to crack me up! Y'all act like you are the very first people to have read the Scripture and tried to understand each and every sentence. Well I'm telling you not only has every sentence been studied over and over and over again but also every word and even every letter by theologians, historians, philosophers and holy men and women for 2,000 years. All you have to do is look. Do any of you really think you have any latter day insight that will trump what has been long been accepted and believed? I hate to burst your bubbles of self-importance but the answer is no because neither you nor I have the authority to personally interpret scripture. What happens when it's tried? Nearly 40,000 protestant denominations result and that includes all you who claim you are not a denomination.

<quoted text>
No this one is simple. Abraham's faith is accounted to him for righteousness. Paul said that OUR faith is accounted for righteousness. Nowhere does the Bible say that Jesus' own personal righteousness is credited to our account.
I don't believe that term is found in scripture and I struggle a little with the concept of imputed righteousness. However I wonder if Paul is saying that our faith is our righteousness-i don't think so because that would make faith a work or a as a substitute to overcome our disobedience.

Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."

Is this the work of God in us or is it our work to believe?

All of is can be a bit ambiguous and difficult to decipher. I am completely convinced that it is clear that we have no righteousness of our own which qualifies for our salvation, and this is why:

All of us have become like one who is unclean,
and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags;
we all shrivel up like a leaf,
and like the wind our sins sweep us away.

Can we be righteous without the death burial and resurrection of Christ? Abraham was or at least it seems that way, but God's plan works through his promise of a savior in both the past and the future. God was able to credit his faith as righteousness based on the success of his plan as though it was already finished.

JC, I'm not the one that refuses to read his Bible free of someone else's doctrinal and/or demoninatoonal biases.

Again, best of luck.

Don't bother to pick it up and read it either, Mark. Somebody else already did your thinking for you.

The Apostles did my thinking.

Once again you read a book created by and for Catholics and you hijack to your own personal infallible thoughts.

So how many more effing centuries is it going to take you to figure it all out???????

Are you smarter and have more insight than Clement? Ignatius? Polycarp? Justin Martyr? Irenaeus? Tertullian? Hippolytus? Cyprian? Origen? Eusebius? Athanasius? Basil? Gregory? Ambrose? Jerome? Augustine? I seriously doubt it. I know I'm not.

And even if you think you have figured it out how can you be really really sure while sitting there in your own little church?

You are nuts pure and simple. Maybe it's your age. I read your comments and wonder how anyone can come up with such nonsense. Seriously, I'm not going to waste time reading any more from you.

133 posts about a passage that was added to the Bible and was not part of the Apostles writings.

Still waiting to see that example of people drinking poison in the New Testament and living that was alleged to be Jesus prediction!

God said there was a way to know if a Prophet was speaking the truth from God, those things spoken would not fail but be proven, yet there is no example of poison drinking or the regular handling of snakes, yes Paul was bitten, yes he lived.

Not the same thing and the poison drinking isn't there and you have two choices, allow scripture to end where it originally ended with the shorter version backed up by the oldest texts or make Jesus into a false prophet giving fuel to the false religion of Islam who claim all the Apostles are liars.

It's your choice! And it will come up in the accounting at the end!

Jesus said that the gospel of the kingdom must be preached to the whole world before the end can come. Listening to some lectures on the Kingdom of God, and the speaker has some really good points. Does your Church preach the gospel of the kingdom of God that Jesus preached?

So your not special your not unique and your no different from anyone else on this finding the truth.... Sorry to burst your bubble.
