Yep, I thought it would be something like that. So I guess our elders are as good as a priest then? If a person calls and ask for anointing we will do it-common practice-no...
Apparently most protestants don't believe Jesus on this.Your type of 'elders' did not exist until of few years ago.

Suffering should bring you closer to God. I know it has me.

Not unless you think the Book of James is funny.
James 5:14 - Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord
No I think James is serious I think you were being a jerk. Instead of saying you would pray you ask a question about whether some practice that may or may not be relevant was done, and for what reason did you ask that question? If not annointed were you going to rush to anoint?

"And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up".

The prayer of faith is the difference maker.

That's the point many miss. "Let HIM call for the elders of the church". We have people asking if the elders were called- but did the sick person do as scripture dictates and call for them his or her self?
You are an effing idiot. CofC elders are NOT going to do it no matter who asks. If CofC elders have EVER anointed the sick I will need the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick myself. My mother, a life long member of the CofC was dying of cancer and unable to speak when the elders of her CofC church were asked to come to the hospital for anointing. They refused.

Those elders were out of line.

Not every coc has elders like that. My congregation does anoint with oil. We keep some up front just in case someone desires it. It was offered to me when I was having troubles back in January. We have several who are very adamant about anointing with oil.

The Sola Scriptura crowd thinks they get to pick and choose. They can arbitrarily decide something is just a symbol or a remembrance in spite of exact words saying otherwise. Then they decide someone has to anticipate being near death and unable to speak so he can call the CofC elders in plenty of time for prayer and anointing. This is why I think you are garbage.

So did the head of the COC remove them? O yeah no authority. Every church can do what they want.

I don't see why not, the catholics have been doing that through their tradition for centuries:-)

Those CofC elders did not refuse because my mother had slipped out of consciousness and couldn't ask for herself. They refused because they didn't believe in doing it period. This is exactly what happens with the Sola Scriptura-little-cup-of-Welchs crowd time and time again. This is exactly why the CofC gets zero respect from people like me who have seen it from the inside.

Protestants have a hard time dealing with the whole Bible, they pick and choose so much.

The Bible is That/And, not This/Not That

Mike the problem I see is that there is a difference between Christ centered doctrine and human centered doctrine. I doubt you can see that though...

Well, let me describe human centered doctrine for you as it applies to what i hear from you. The pope is infallible and can forgive sin, plus Mary is worshiped and tradition is valued above scripture.

Now, can you explain what Christ centered doctrine is?

Go look in the mirror if you really want to see a human centered doctrinal fool. What did y'all make up to do at the Bible church yesterday? Have a hoodie day?

No, James just told you what the real difference maker is. No problem anointing the sick with oil. But recognize what James, not me, said will heal the sick- the prayer of faith.

If you're saved why don't you just pray for the man? He is asking for Prayers, and he knows you can't be there to rub the oil on him! So do the nextbest thing. Good Lord!

And it's really sad and a shame that any elders would not come and pray for the woman and anoint her with oil - if that's what she asked for, that shouldn't have been a problem - unless the preacher was from Texas or the East Tennessee school of preaching - they know more than anyone on earth - and usually more than God Himself:-)

I think thats what cured my old car. The motor was making a lil noise and knocking a little bit so I put some 10-W-30 Wt motor oil in it and it cured it right up, so yes there is a lot of truth to the oil thing. I also rubbed some oil on the hood hinges and it stopped the squeaks. Good call Barnsweb
