Huge overreaction by campus administrators. There is no evidence this person broke any laws or was planning on doing so.

Truly, if he steps off that campus into the town(hamlet) of Ferrum , he doesn't stands the same chance as a "snowball in hell" . Everyone in that "Rambo town" has four kinds of guns-long,short, big, and loud.

I am a senior at Bayside High School and am looking forward to college next year, but after hearing about all of these shottings at colleges it really makes me worried. My bestfriend of 14 years is a freshman at Ferrum and was texting me scared and unsure this morning as she was in lockdown in her classroom, it's really scary when something like this hits so close to home. Something needs to be done to make these colleges safer and more secure.

He could have been afraid of some paranoid overreaction by the campus administrators....
Carrying a gun is not illegal, even on a college campus. Unless there was some evidence, real evidence, that he was planning on shooting someone, there's nothing to investigate.

I am a proud graduate of Ferrum, and as a college professor in Virginia, I am very proud of the way Ferrum administration has handled the situation. Yes, Matt, it may all be innocent, but I had rather the administration have over reacted than be sorry later!

to Matt: If the guy was so innocent why didn't he stick around or show himself to explain after the alert went out? If he's so innocent, where is he now? After other school "situations" I am glad that someone is finally finding a way to keep our kids safe.

Being a former Ferrum College student it is against school policy to have guns of any sort on campus. Between the shootings that have occurred in two colleges; Ferrum did not over react but did what every school would have done, taken extra precaution.
