<quoted text>Heath- Grace is God's part and faith is our part.

God has supplied the way for salvation by means of the cross but we have to have the faith to believe it.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--

not by works, so that no one can boast.

By grace alone through faith alone.

I think you are about to get it:-)
You don't get it still. You've added "alone".

That's like a science book that saying we live on "oxygen alone" and "water alone."

"Faith alone" is found once in the Bible.

Hang around Heath- one of these days it will sink in. It may have sank in already but your doctrine is more important to you right now.

Amen to all those passages.
Not one of them say we are saved by "grace alone".
Luke 11:27-28
27 And it happened, as He spoke these things, that a certain woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, "Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!"
28 But He said, "More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!"

Do you remember when we first met on these threads? I told you then that the coc was much closer in doctrine with the catholics than you care to admit. That may be the reason Mike has targeted this group. He wants you to become a catholic. All I want is for you to see the simplicity of the gospel and allow God to guide you.

I will flat be honest with you. I have never heard of the COC existing in this country before this forum.

I have heard of the one in the Philippines.

I thought the COC and the Church of God and the Church of God in Christ was all the same thing. Which they are. Just protesters.

But after researching the COC I think people on here belong to, it is insignificant as protesters go.

They have a little over 1 millon members and 1/2 are in Texas and Tenn. They started around 1800 when all of the lower end protester Churches started. They didnt catch on. They were barely large enough by 1900 to make a box on the tax return form to check. Before that they were part of the others box.

The Mormons, Pentecostals, and JWs did a much better job of marketing their product.

Church Trivia. Did you know that a Marian devotion is not something that is needed for salvation like most people who are ignorant of the Church believes because their Daddy said so.

Ah. you are a COCer. Why didn't you admit to that. I am a proud Papist.

Maybe you can help me. I have been asking for a while.

Name one COC member from AD 100 to AD 1700. I like history and would love to see what one wrote about the Bible back then.

Your inventors did that 200 years ago when they were picking out your community's name after if split from the "Christian" church. Your northern members picked Disciples of Christ and Church of God was already taken.

Lets see ' the churches of Christ'??? Sounds good. Lets go with that one. Didn't take off did it. Joe Smith and Charles Russell did a much better job than Campbell and Sommer.

That's funny-I am still laughing.

There are many biblical names for the church and church of Christ is only one of them. However catholic is not found. None of that is a big deal to me. However adding to the scripture is a big deal to me. It is the false teaching that they add that is not found in scripture that I find to be atrocious. That word means horrifyingly wicked.

Bobby you said adding to the scripture is a big deal to you. But brother (and I do mean as in fellow believer) you stand self condemned here then. Grace ALONE faith ALONE Christ ALONE=unbiblical. Not in there. Mans INTERPRETATION.

If I change the wording to this would it help?

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--

It is God's grace and our faith. I think you understand that a gift is just that -it's a gift. A gift cannot be earned. All we have to offer is our faith. We were walking dead men before faith came.

Of course the story continues as we act out our faith/works but that is not how we were born again- it is what have been re-designed to do.

Dave, while I was in the coc I struggled with this just like you do. I could read the scripture and I would immediately reverse my thoughts to coc doctrine and I would add James 2 to it.

You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.

We can go around quoting eph 2 and if we have no evidence that we true Christians who will believe us? Eph 2-10 says we were re-generated to do good works

Take a wild animal stranded on floating ice, we can rescue him from certain death and he will not be thankful-he will return to the wild.

If we are genuinely born again we will show fruit. But it can take time for that fruit to appear after the bloom sets.

Relax-God is for us not against us-he knows and understands our weakness! He will never leave us or forsake us. In other words we cannot save ourselves through our good works-it is God working in us to accomplish his will for which we were designed. He has placed his Spirit in us guaranteeing that he will finish what he has begun in us.

This is found in the scripture not a man made book.

I tend t side with Dave. How can ALONE consist of more than one thing.

Most Calvinist say:

*Sola Fide, by faith alone.
*Sola Scriptura, by Scripture alone.
*Solus Christus, through Christ alone.
*Sola Gratia, by grace alone.
*Soli Deo Gloria, glory to God alone.

How can faith be ALONE if there must be grace, Scripture, Christ, and glory to God?

If I were to proclaim these, I would not use the word ALONE. Perhaps I'd use them all as parts of the whole but its silly to call faith ALONE then say grace ALONE. This means each are NOT alone but parts of the whole.
