The hard-line Churches of Christ (very small group of about 20% of Churches of Christ as a whole) meet the criteria for authoritarian. To put it bluntly, they are control freaks.

Their view of God as bad-tempered and not very accommodating in telling us what He wants, but making us search for the blueprint rules in a history of the early church in the book of Acts. This is evidenced by their constant references to the disobedience and deaths of Nadab and Abihu, Uzzah, the Israelites in the wilderness, etc.

Almost every Sunday the competing denominations are mentioned for all of their disobedience to God, as if they are in competition with them.

The practice of withdrawal [of fellowship] is used to keep people attending, obeying the elders, etc.(I Cor. 5 and other passages are used to justify this practice.)

They accuse others of being dishonest and cannot see the inconsistencies of their own doctrines.( SOUND LIKE ANYONE WE KNOW )

All other baptisms outside the Churches of Christ are condemned as not saving baptisms.

In the exclusive, hard-line Church of Christ I was trained to criticize and find fault. All other Churches were wrong. Ask enough questions to find the wrong doctrine and then zero in on their false doctrine. Ruin every friendship and relationship. Criticism became automatic. Criticize and fault-find--it was a religious feeling, the feeling of being self-righteous. They were wrong and I was right. Shawn displays this quite well on here.

There are many wonderful Churches of Christ, however there are about 20% that bear a marked similarity to the Pharisees, such as Johnson Street Church of Christ, Royce City Church of Christ, and Martinsville Church of Christ - to name a few.

Twenty percent of Churches of Christ still try to minimize sin and maximize their own ability to measure up to God's holiness. Some preachers in the Churches of Christ affirm that Jesus paid the price for our sins, but deny that Jesus traded places with us on the cross. They deny that Jesus' righteousness is credited to us when we are baptized into Christ. Their gratefulness for God's forgiveness is far less than those who teach that we are very sinful. Their power to conquer sins seems to rest in themselves rather than in the powerful grace of Christ's sacrifice.

Sects like that of Johnny have rigid categories of thought, don't like disagreement, don't like batting around an unfamiliar idea--as Shawn demonstrated when we were discussing whether he was purposely baptized to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. He tried 4 times to get around this, then resorted to lying.

Often men like Shawn and Johnny are boot-lickers to those above them in the hierarchy, competitive with their equals and often mean to those lower on the hierarchy ladder. They are typically very obedient to authority, while at the same time very suspicious of authority.

The good news, though, is that these hard-line radical hyper-conservatives are dying off and losing membership at a high rate of speed, and in 10 years they will be just a memory. Sure, there will always remain a few around who desire to promote their self-righteous agenda, but most will have come to the Grace of God in the Church of Christ and moved past the legalism that these 20% now endorse.

why bill does johnny refuse to talk
about preachers who have suddenly left this area.
norm field , jason. seems to upset him at the mention of the event.

Norm Fields left because the finances were not adequate enough to support him, his family and his work. The question you should ask Johnny is why did the Martinsville Church of Christ pull Norms salary, before he even moved. They profess to be loving, but yet, yanked Norms support "out of spite" because he put in his notice, stating he planned to leave. Now thats Christian love !

To my knowledge, Jason Hairston still resides in the area. He didnít move away nor did he stay with Johnny and the Church of Christ. The members at Martinsville know the full story and it wasnít a good time for them.

johnny always says that they Welcome questions but what they REALLY want is for you to call and ask
any thing not so as to give an answer but to confuse and entrap the caller.
i pointed this out to him several times off air.
he didnt like that i told him about it being impossible to have ANY group of people and have no disagreements.
he dosent like my view of his tactic at all.

i also met norm at LOWES some time back and approached him. he had his daughter with him.
we had several conversations on air and he cut me off one night after asking him why he didnt tell a woman who had called in saying she was sick to call for the elders of the church.
he remembered me and seemed surprised when i complemented his daughter and said have a nice day. the look on his face was priceless.

His congregation is like any assembly. It has some who are well-schooled in the teachings of the Church of Christ and some who are not. If the community were wise, it would fill his Church pews and mingle with his assembly and "privately" show them the error of JR.

I know Norm quite well. He adheres to the very doctrine that all Church of Christ radicals teach/believe.

It is my understanding that Norm does not agree with Ezra 10's use by the CoC as an example of what to do with divorced people who are in a second marriage. And if that is true then Norm is the one who is correct since there is no example of the Apostles quoting it to force people to return to previous spouses nor did Jesus correct the woman at the well and her 5 husbands and one live in lover.

Tell me Heath, since I have seen John's trainee's bait people into sin repeatedly, were you also trained to go looking for opportunities to get people to sin so you can record it?

For instance Mark McGinnis after fretting the people at Owen's farm out of the blue asked the question "Did Mr. Fallwell cancel?". Now why ask this, what was the point, was he really thinking that Mr. Fallwell was not going to show or was he sensing the time was right to temp another to sin, so he could record it?

Secondly as Micah Robertson crowed over and over "we got you on tape lying" if he also was on tape lying to the postal people about wanting to place tracks is he accountable to the Hypocritical Judgment rules that God has in place for Judgment or does his righteousness make him immune to God's word in this area?

WIL, how can Shawn state something like this, seeing he lies himself. They justify this sort of stuff and say its not lying. More to come on that later.

These type of radicals will do whatever they can to lift up themselves and try to tear others down.

Thanks to Shawn and others, they have given Channel 18 over 1 million dollars to help Charles purchase R rated movies. Way to go Shawn!!!

Truth attracts and repels. You couldn't come up with a better one liner? How about addressing the many questions posted here. Do you operate as Micah?

I could really use some advice on the matter. My Bf from Middleburg said his church was very radical and did not like members dating out of the church. So when we started dating they told him they were not happy so he was going to leave the church and move here. We were great together. Went to church together. I got roses thurs and a text fri saying he was never coming back to lake city???? His phone is off and Facebook page cancelled?? I've called his pastor and he won't tell me anything. I went to where he use to live and got no help from them either. I'm very worried but don't know what to do?! We had talked about marriage for goodness sake. It is a church of Christ in Middleburg. He kept telling me they were trying to program him and he was sick of it. I don't know what to do???!
