Somebody else is using my EIN number, could that affect me negatively?I tried to open a business credit card in Chase Bank and when I gave my EIN number, the person that I spoke with said that the number is already assigned to another business. I do have all the documentation so I can prove that the EIN is my company's.
Still, I'm concerned that if someone else is using it, I might get in trouble. I called the IRS but they couldn't tell me what could happen, only that that EIN and the name of that other company wouldn't match. Is there any potential problem I might have in the future? Is so, what could I do about it?
