Why did The Forest Service let this fire get so big? They monitored it for weeks and took no action then when it became unmanagable they decided to take action. That is the same Fire Management that burned Yellowstone in 1988. When will they learn. You fight fire on your terms not the fires terms!

Julius was right. They COULD have put the fire out when it was small. There is just a loophole in the planning process that allows them to prescribed burn an area IF it is started by lightning without doing all of the planning or public input, etc. This Team did the same thing to the Kaibab Forest in Arizona. They let a single tree fire go until it was so big and destructive that it burned over 58,000 acres of ponderosa pine and a scenic hgighway to the North Rim. The Forest Service says that this denuding the landscape of all vegetation was a success. Makes me wonder what a failure looks like. Look up "Warm Fire" on SOSforests.com . There were several more screw-ups around the West using fire in the wrong places at the wrong times.
