What a very generous gift...how wonderful, but i wonder why such a huge amount of money?? we have so many local organizations of homeless people, sick, elderly, veterans, etc who need help so desperately...so even though the donor can donate any which way she chooses, i have to wonder in our economy now--who in the heck has that much money to donate to a school????? even a fine school like UM...people are losing their jobs, homes, lives....

Ms. Arsht's generous gift is wonderful. In any economy, there are worthwhile research projects and programs which still need support. It is fantastic that she may likely see results of her devotion to the school, rather than as a bequest after she has left this Earth.
To each, her own. If I were in her philanthropic position, I too would donate to other wothwhile causes. Through research, we advance the human race, however research cannot be done without much-needed funding. There are plenty of tax-payer funded programs to assist the homeless |
