I have been told for 2 years there will be a buyout. the government(townhall) knows how bad the conditions are in the cannon hole yet they allow families to continue to live there. it is documented on how polluted the water and soil is in that area. It is also known as a cancer cluster. They continue to drag there feet.while families are getting sicker. That alone should be a crime.

It's common knowledge that flooding occurs next to rivers. Why would anyone build a home next to the river without realizing it will most likely be flooded at some point?? With flooding comes contaminated water. Common sense. People that choose to live next to the river made the choice, not the government.

I am trying to find how "The Cannon Hole" got it's name. We lived on upper anon Hoe Rd. in1949-1951.
The only reference I have been able to find is to another location in Lycoming County where a cannon was ditched into the deepest part of the river by the French to keep the English from discovering it.
I recall a similar story for the Barton, NY Cannon Hole, but can not remember the detail.
