Thats a bright idea! Just because they are going to drink does not mean that we should make it easier for them.

Oh Better yet my kids are considered ADULTS at 18teen I have no say so after that, but they cant drink till their 21. Taxes, I only can claim till they are 17 teen. Just another way for the cities to get money. Why build a car that does 150 when the highest speed is 70. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY! GREED!

When I was under 21 I had all the same opinions about lowering the age. Now that I'm much older I can understand the higher age for drinking. Many many 18 years old do not have the mentality or the responsiblity to drink at 18. You parents who responded with allowing thier kids to drink under age because "thier going to anyways" are ignorant. The death rate, the accident rate with drinking and driving and over comsuming would skyrocket. I've got a idea how about a common sense test or parent license because some of the comments above are irresponsible.

It does not matter what the legal age is. If they want to drink they will.

I agree that the drinking age should be lowered.

The mamby-pambseys saying that 18 is too young...what do you base this on...what is the difference between 18 and 21 besides 3 years?

Cellphone use while driving is more than twice as likely to be the cause of an accident than alcohol.

How many times do you see people yammering it up while driving...just an observation but it seems to be more women then men but that is only what I noticed. And now we are seeing people texting more and more.

So if we are truly worried about safety on the road, lets talk about cell use.

Also if we are talking about driving, we need to think about older people driving, they should be tested annually at the age of 62 for their ability to handle a vehicle. At 70 and on they should have to verify their ability semi-annually.

No more old people having an episode and crashing into elementary schools or gas stations or plowing into groups of people.

What kind of idiot fails to provide a valid argument or discussion on why you position is better or that someone elses is worse.
I presented a partial case on lowering the age, I also countered the argument about drinking and driving....so whats your point you MORON?

Instead of sitting in your ivory tower and passing judgment on all...share your opinion...ding-dong!

It makes little sense that America considers an 18-year-old mature enough to marry, to sign a contract, to vote and to fight and die for his country, but not mature enough to decide whether or not to have a beer.

Indiana University professor Ruth Engs released a 1989 study showing that young adults' alcohol abuse actually increased markedly after the nationwide raising of the drinking age. In 20 years of studies, she's repeatedly found that significantly more underage drinkers than college students of legal age are heavy drinkers. These findings underscore the truth of human nature that making something forbidden increases its allure.

A recent European Union study reveals that the countries where moderate daily drinking is the norm (Italy, Spain and France) have the fewest binge drinkers (2 percent, 2 percent and 8 percent, compared to 34 percent in Ireland and 27 percent in Finland).

We'll never get rid of all substance abuse. But if we adopt a more reasonable approach to alcohol and adulthood, we can eliminate much of the drinking born of simple defiance and focus our attention on the kids who really need help: the ones drinking to escape mental, emotional or spiritual problems.

I say keep the drinking age the way it is. And raise the driving age to 21 as well.

As well as the drafting age.

Raise it all. A 16 year old is a child, an 18 year old is a child, and a 21 year old is still like a child but with a little more sense.

So why not just say 25, since that's how old you have to be to rent a car or have your insurance lowered!

When I was 18 it was legal to drink. That meant I started drinking when I was 15 since I was in High School and classmates and friends that were 18. When I was 21 I voted for raising the age. Much creativity was lost for that age of my generation. Everything seemed to have drink involved.

When I was 15/16 I was drinking as well...but the drinking age was 21! I went into the military and went to Texas where it was 18 then transferd and found the base's everywhere were 19 for beer.
So whats your point?

There is always going to be an age one below the legal age in which someone has a friend who is going to buy. What you are suggesting is that simply because you were 15 with friends that were 18 you were able to drink is nonsense.
I remember getting beer by standing around the party store, by using a fake ID, by going to a certain party store in Redford that didn't card you.

Canada's legal drinking age is 19, and they have no epidemic of youth drinking problems...no more than anyone else!

When I was in the military, I had an M-16 automatic rifle with 180 rounds of ammo as my normal and daily duty supply. I then traveled to no-mans land on a daily basis and worked on and around ICBM system and missiles, which had the capability of the destruction of entire cities around the globe, to ensure that this national security defensive weapon was able to do its job.

At 18/19 do you think I was not responsible enough to drink a beer at the end of a 16 hour day? There where and are tens if not hundreds of thousands of men and women in this very same scenario every single day, providing a level of comfort and security to this country the likes of which many can not even fathom...and for those men and women of our armed forces I say and will always say...you have done your part so go ahead and have a beer or drink if you want!

So before you paint this broad stroke for everyone based on the fact that you did something illegal, maybe sit back and look at the bigger picture, and lets assume people are doing it the legal and correct way.

And to the busy bodies I say...worry about your own little piece of the pie, stop broad-stroking the entire nation based on your single individual infinitesimal window and experience.
Good idea

I do not beleive the old and baseless argument of "if i can serve my country, I should be able to drink". You may have been more responsible at 18 than most but you look at the over all average many 18 year olds are not.

I know alcohol is accessible to kids. But 18 year olds hang out with 15 year olds. I dont want these teens to have even more access than they do now

People are going to steal too, so lets make it legal! Great philosophy you have there.

That's why people like you should NEVER be allowed to vote.

You are in a dissatisfied mood, and are just spoiling for a fight today. However, be warned that this could backfire on you unpleasantly, especially if you take on superiors at work. At home, everyone is used to your behaviour and they generally make allowances for you, as they will today.
