I drive 11th street in Coffeyville every day and have for over 30 years! I am getting very tired of the valleys of water that are left in the tire tracks after a rain between 8th street and the river bridge on 11th. This is becoming a very dangerous situation for motor vehicles and is going to cost the city a ton of money whether it gets fixed or not! Someone is going to have a bad wreck very soon after hitting the water valleys in the road and sue! I suggest the city talk seriously with the state (whomever is responsible)and get that stretch of road overlaid to alleviate the problem! It is once again very, very, dangerous to someone not ready for it when traveling through town! The water causes extreme hydroplaning!

I agree.. Although, the road base is going to have to be rebuilt..Adding an asphalt overlay will only be temporary.. |

This will be a City issue, however, the City could get some 'assistance' via the State with funding. And your are correct, it is a liability with them 'knowing' that this is a hazard. Maybe they should of fixed this before they made a new addition to Cline.

1 Fire Dept, Police Dept, and City Workers like my self have taken Cuts to fit those needs in more ways than one. We are the lowest paid people here in the state of Kansas Alone, you can compare that fact to other Cities. We pay dearly for mistakes that have happen before our own Generation and We'll be paying in the Generation to come. People Use Caution before you Drive, Slow down when you see repairs needing done, OUR street Maint list is so long and Ours Days are longer with shorter pay as well. We have over 200 homes in our County alone, that are waiting to come down. 142 aborted due to the Work load alone this year. We cann't hire all the people We need without paying them up front. If you got a grip come to our City Hall meetings and listen in on our debates and what We are talking about ! that's my Advice to everyone here. COMPAINING about the small things compare to what is our majore concern helps everyone to know ALL the facts. WHY, WHERE, HOW COME, Next question is when ? When will you Listen to those, that do know what they are talking about ? |

I have noticed that the city seems to have enough money for new trucks,2 or 3 men to a truck riding around doing nothing does save gas I guess,However the city seems to be able to build water park, add on to a golf course, and lets not orget that dumbass stadium that cant be used or 4 th of july celebrations because it isnt safe.

1 As for the streets, why are we spending the money to extend Cline from 8th to 11th when we need repairs all over town much worse? With Wal-mart moving the extension is even more a waste of taxpayers money. |

I have heard that the road extension on Cline will raise the flood plain of Sycamore creek several feet(after the improvements) Is this true? Does anyone know? If so, it's something that should have been addressed long ago. However, with the conditions of some of the main streets in town, it probably isn't the top priority right now. Also, to "City Worker": Hey man we know that the majority of you guys do a good job for low pay and we understand that you are not the ones making the decisions about where the money goes, so hang in there and chill, man.

I am wondering why we are even extending Cline? What a waste!! |

1 I have no opinion whatsoever on the 11th Street issue in Coffeyville (however, I sometimes wonder why there is a steep drop off the pavement in the the far right, eastbound lane near First Federal Savings and Loan). It's just my opinion, but I wish people would be brave enough to use their real identities instead of hiding behind other people's names or blogger names. Seems rather secretive to me ... for a medium that is supposed to be more open to public discourse. |

1 Why hasn't the City used it for concerts and events like they did when it first opened?.Also I remember seeing in the paper that the roof was loose and needed more screws to hold it on and someone who worked on the stadium said the anchor bolts holding the seats to the concrete had issues.Where is the money the city had set aside from the Memorial Hall Fund?I believe it disappeared long ago.Memorial Hall was built to honor the memory of the soldiers of WWI.The destruction of Memorial Hall and the sale of the land just to build a motel is a downright disgrace perpetuated by the city to the soldiers and relatives of those men who fought and died in THE GREAT WAR as it was called. The only reason they named it Veterens Stadium, was because Alsup would have caused a riot naming it after himself.By the way is that Stadium and the Golf Course self sustaining in financial income? |

I don't know where you got the Stadium was not safe. The only things said, was the upkeep was being neglected for some reason or another. |

Hmmmmm gets quiet around here.....
|

Only when you bring up stuff that they know the City has done that is stupid,Say what about them houses that never got finished by the Brown Mansion?,You know the ones the city had a hand in financing for us underprivilaged and low income folks. |

i dont make it to town often but i was there today so i thought i'd actually drive down 11th to see what the fuss is about--its AWFUL!! bumpy, cracked, holes--what a way to welcome new people to town or the old people coming back to visit!! when i was little, i used to like to hear the tires go over the cracks on my way to so. town or out east it was always fun to listen for that sound--but today--it was sad, almost like bein on a cowpath dirt road in spots.'course it makes me sad to see some of the changes since i've been gone too. i freaked when i found out ford wulf bruns was an actual HOUSE now!!! EWWWWWWWW!!

Dude, the roof blew off 8 years ago, before it was finished when we had a big ass wind stom, and hail. All of us including me that live on the "hill" got damage. As for the Memorial Hall Fund, get over it, the place burned down in the early 80's, and LeRoy did a hell of a lot more good for Coffeyville than our current city manager has done. |
