Reel it in, Mr. Bennett. I appreciate your support of the right to bear arms. I appreciate your belief that Oklahomans should be able to protect themselves from those who would do them harm. I honor and respect your service to our country. But, in my opinion, you are becoming a bit irresponsible in your rhetoric. As one of the citizens you were chosen to represent, I must say that I disagree with a law that would allow anyone to openly carry a firearm without a permit. This is not 1880. It is 2011. Open-carry should simply be an extention of the policies of the concealed carry law. While I support the idea that a citizen may carry a pistol openly on their hip, I feel that there must be a legal mechanism in place that would guarantee (with legal documentation) that that person is responsible, sane, and law-abiding. Furthermore, raising your voice to you constituents while referencing your war kills is borderline fringey nut-like. I voted for you and plan to again. But please Sir, start looking back to the middle of the political spectrum again.

You are crying around about a pistol on the hip...Switzerland lets citizens ( requires them to own) have automatic rifles with bannana clips. Where is Oklahoma gun rights? Give us our guns rights to keep the governemnt and local roches in check.

We have plenty of gun rights in Oklahoma. What we don't need is a wild-west gun party in Oklahoma. Even in Switzerland they must have PERMITS (Waffentragschein in their language) to carry. The permit process is what keeps criminals and mentally unstable people from carrying while PROTECTING the 2nd amendment rights of sane law-abiding Oklahomans. I'm not against open carry. I'm against carte-blanche gun toting in Oklahoma. ALSO, the way Bennett behaved after he did not get his way troubles me to no small degree.

Bennett needs to grow up and quit throwing tantrums. Acting the way he did, waving his little flag tie and making veiled threats to people at the capitol building just shows he wants his own way and not what the is always good for the voters. I don't want to see anyone that acts like he acted have a gun handy on their hip. How fast can you say "fruit loop?"

Don't you follow the news?

"a wild-west gun party in Oklahoma" is going on right now on our streets with the bad guys, and innocent people are getting injured and killed.

If you don't like open-carry go tell the bad guys to stop their shooting. They are the ones who act like they have "carte-blanche gun toting in Oklahoma".

What difference is there in having a gun concealed or open the person still has the gun. Having an open carry law won't change anything and make a state a wild west gun party. They are already out their being carried you just don't see them now.

This bill also requires a permit. Who cares what the requirements in Switzerland are this is America.

If you want to include other countries there are many that allow open carry just look in the middle east where they carry fully automatic weapons around on their shoulders.

I guess since other countries allow full auto Oklahomans should too. I am only pointing this out because of your reference to Switzerland.

Read the bill you still have to have a permit.

Isn't John Bennett on 100% disability due to a brain injury?
Could that be the reason he is acting so irrationally?
I can't believe he is bragging and proud of how many people he has killed. Heaven help us.

The enormous amount of hand-wringing over a redneck's right to have his guns shows just how shallow and uninformed people are.

Simple-minded distractions over your guns and other mundane and meaningless issues is part of the reason Oklahoma is so backward....not that the rest of the country is too informed.

CIRCUS OF THE ABSURD

Why is the American culture able to so easily ignore past and the present crimes against humanity? The same self-imposed amnesia that has long been in place for the crimes of Christianity, more specifically the Roman Catholic Church.

It's very revealing when people's knowledge of the holocaust is adequate....although misinformed, but at least most people could give some feeble answer if pushed. But could the average person, even a practicing Catholic, tell you about the Catholic Church's conciliation of Hitler even after being told years before of the pending genocide?

The Catholic Church, indeed all organized Christianity is loud and outspoken when it comes to their issues. I guess speaking out against the genocide of "those people" never has been important.

If America was dropping contraceptives in Vietnam the Catholic Church would have had a shit-fit. Napalm OK....birth control? HELL NO! Or any other country we've bombed or invaded.....If we were there to slow the population growth the RCC would be condemning us to hell but genocide is tolerable.

Then there's the last 30 years of gradual right-wing control of the media, creating manufactured consent among the ignorant and uninformed. Ownership of politicians and even the Supreme Court by the Wall Street banksters and the fascism that exists between corporatism and the "people's" government. 30 years of ignoring climate change, nuclear and environmental poisoning and the tax evasion and avoidance by corporations and the wealthy elite by off-shore banking.

How can a country become so mis-informed and ignorant of the truth to think that today's economic mess is the fault of labor unions, the sick, the elderly and the poor? It's called manufactured consent, not much different than state-owned media, only in America it's ideological and greed-driven.

If this isn't absurd, I'd be interested in your idea of absurd.

My reference to Switzerland was a response to the Pot-head who brought up that country first. I don't feel that full auto should be allowed to civilians. It is not needed. I have not read the bill. I was basing my thoughts on the Tulsa World article.
Let me be clear: I LIKE open carry with a permit. I LIKE concealed carry with a permit. I LIKE the 2nd Amendment. I DON'T like the way Bennett handled the issue. I THOUGHT the article stated that the bill eliminated the vetting process.

No you don't still have to have a permit. I own 4 guns. I carry concealed. I am OPPOSED TO ALLOWING EVERYONE 18 AND OVER TO OPEN CARRY WITHOUT A PERMIT, WITHOUT TRAINING AND WITHOUT A BACKGROUND CHECK. I guess you must have forgotten this is a civilized society we live in. Why do you feel the need the strap a six shooter on your belt and walk into a school, a church, the grocery store, a hospital, the mall, or anywhere else? If you are that paranoid, you need to take a chill pill for your nerves and stay behind locked doors. We don't need nervous, paranoid rednecks like you roaming the streets with decent law-abiding citizens. Your rights end where mine begin.

In a real America, before government and corporate media fed fear, the only people who carried guns were cops, criminals and chickens.

I was told by a concealed carry instructor in AR if the open carry passes here, they and other states will no longer honor Oklahomas concealed carry licenses. This would be a bad deal. I have a concealed carry, but do not support the open carry.
Too many hot heads and wanna be cops and vigilantes out there. This would just make it easier for those folks to lose control.

In order to carry a concealed weapon in the state of Oklahoma you are required to have a CCW permit, it is the law. Without one you can have your weapon confiscated, and you will be fined and possible jail time. This is the law in Oklahoma and many other states.

This bill does not change the fact that you still would be required to have a permit to carry a loaded firearm.

A quote from the article you apparently did not read.

"The bill would allow anyone with a concealed handgun permit to carry a nonconcealed gun."

Did you see that ANYONE WITH A CONCEALED HANDGUN PERMIT TO CARRY A NONCONCEALED GUN. A permit is still required.

If you carry concealed and do not have a permit you are breaking the law.
