Here we go again this summer...Copan sends the mosquito truck around weekly filling the air of CLOUDS OF TOXIC CHEMICALS vainly trying to eliminate mosquitoes and in the process, kills all the honey bees and beneficial insects. Not to mention making people sick! Those of us trying to garden, and need bees to pollinate our flowering plants suffer because the bees are killed. This is just part of what's wrong with "progress" nowadays. People have forgotten nature has a balance. When the beneficial insects are gone, the mosquitoes and other damaging bugs seem to thrive anyway. And the people continue to be plagued with mosquito bites, and their asthma and allergy attacks escalate. Copan would do better by installing some bat houses or places where house wrens could nest and take down mosquitoes in a much safer and healthful way. But no, Copan is so smart, and will continue to pay for toxic chemical spraying to endanger children, asthmatic adults, the elderly and wildlife. City hall calls the shots in this one horse backward town. Praying for the bug sprayer to be broken again seems to be the only hope for "progress" in Copan.

This just happened this week..there was a man and woman walking with several small children on Caney Ave in Copan when the city worker came by spraying the usual cloud of toxic fumes. He kept right on driving and spraying as he passed these people, enveloping them in a cloud of chemicals. As he passed by the guy turned around and yelled at him and flipped him off but the worker just kept on driving and spraying. I guess the people that live here have no say so about whether their being poisoned or not. It does make me wonder whether or not these city workers would make good TSA agents. They sure fit the profile.

Skittle wrote: Sounds like malaria is your preference. That's pure nonsense. There is no way the constant fogging Copan does, is any sort of viable protection against mosquitoes. Even after the constant fogging, if you go outside without protection, you'll have multiple mosquito bites within minutes. The only safe way to go outside in the summer is to wear appropriate clothing and use a repellent. And of course, keeping water traps and other breeding grounds to a minimum. The mosquito dunks help. As would natural biological helps such as predator insects and birds,(if the fogging didn't kill them). IOW's, Copan can't expect to be using these harmful chemicals without harming other beneficial wildlife, as well as harming humans. http://www.rei.com/expertadvice/articles/inse...

The city has a council meeting once a month I am sure. You as a resident should gather everyone that feels the same as you, and meet at city hall and voice your concerns. Posting on some rarely viewed forum site will get you nothing. Get a petition stated and take it to the city hall and fight it properly or continue to enjoy a nice foggy evening of pesticides with your dinner.
Case Closed..... Next!

I can spell DEET, and that's what I would advise others to use to keep clear of bites, because FOGGING doesn't do a bit of good except to damage wildlife and humans. However, you are free to suck it in if you believe in it so much.

They do what they want to do, which is usually nothing, or at least paying attention to what the people who have to live here want..or need. If they did, they'd have spent the money used for the $20,000 sign they put up advertising "what a great town Copan is" on actually fixing some things up.

August 13, dry as a bone. Even the weeds won't grow, hardly any rain all summer due to the drought and heat wave, but this Copan city worker clown is out,(again), spraying toxic fumes all over pedestrians and kids playing in their yards...apparently to kill the non-existent mosquitoes. I had to come inside. I have asthma and I don't appreciate this one little bit. Copan truly is a case of arrested development.
