I would say look a few miles west to Arkansas City. I will say no more. Little Chicago.

The 1983 drug dealing was verified by people (including some in law enforcement) who saw planes landing at night on the Mullendore ranch and on discreet surveillance, saw loads of assumed marijuana being brought in there. The suspicion was that these were being flown in from Mexico. There was a drug dealer killed up in northern Osage County in 1983 who was also getting drugs from Mexico, and there was some connection between his murder and the Mullendore case, even though they happened many years apart. Not exactly sure what it was but hope to find out. Not giving the name of the one who paid the price yet but he did not commit that murder. Believe Mexican drug dealers possibly having a connection to the ranch up North did it with some help of some others who had a lot to lose if their connection with that murder was ever brought out in the open. They are still around and free while someone else has served 20+ years in prison. They could have even had enough of a "hold" on Chub that he did it for them and that's why he won't talk. Am looking for clues to connect the two murders together. Possibly a common shooter?
Is it purely coincidence that Chub was later found growing massive amounts of marijuana up there?
Mystery fan, you must read comment number 61.

Sorry, I don't get the connection. I've heard the references to Arkansas City before but have not been able to connect it up with this case. I know EC had dealings there. What specifically should I be looking for where Arkansas City is concerned?

John from Tulsa, your story is flawed. According to the Kwitney book, Chub did't even go to the racetrack with EC that night. EC was with his mother. Chub had gone to Coffeyville to the auction house to pick up checks for cattle that had been sold that day (which he didn't get) and then he returned to the ranch and went to Gene's. He waited there for EC and Kathleen to return from the races, then went to EC's house. EC wanted to go somewhere and make a phone call to a pilot who was supposedly going to take them to a meeting with an attorney in Kansas City (or Dallas) the next afternoon. That's when they got chased by Bill Mitchell on the back roads until they lost him and they ended up at Jim Gose's house. Gose verified that in interviews with Kwitney. According to the book, Chub says he never told EC about not getting the money, so EC wouldn't have been mad enough at Chub to have tried to kill him that night. He was in a pretty good mood, according to the book, because he was going to meet some people the next day that he thought was going to give him money and to start start divorce proceedings against Linda. He had not been served divorce papers from her at that point.
In reference to the article by Michelle Martin, Bill Kurtis's assistant, why were George Wayman and Dwight Bernard the first ones to go talk to Chub when he got to Sedan from up North? Why an old retired sheriff and a retired deputy/prison guard? Why not Ty Koch, the current sheriff in Osage County? Could it be that they had to go up there to remind Chub to keep his mouth shut about who murdered EC? Has Chub been threatened all these years? Maybe Wayman wanted to find out from Chub if he was ready to tell who killed EC, but why would he not want the current sheriff in attendance at that meeting? Wayman couldn't do anything about it now, even if he did find out something.
Carolyn, I'm willing to help get this case opened back up. I think it is connected to another case of murder that occurred up in that same area that involved drug dealers who supposedly got some of their drugs from the Mullendore Ranch in 1983 that was supposedly solved, but they sent the wrong man down the river. I'd like to prove it.
I don't know what book you are talking about. What I do know is just because it is written in black and white doesn't always make it so. I'm not baseing my facts on a book but by several witnesses who saw EC trying to climb into a stock car he sponsered and falling down drunk. They also witnessed EC and Chub yelling at one another as they loaded up in a vehicle and left. Thats all I'm saying, take it for what its worth

If you go to ask questions in Little Chicago be very careful. Its not a threat just a heads up. In the past thier has been suicides from being shot in the back of the head. I would say your man in jail could shed some light here. Good luck.

Thanks, Windwalker, but not planning any trips where it's any more dangerous than Pawhuska. There have been "suicides" from shots in the back of the head over there, too. Have seen the photos of victim, and no way was it a suicide. Must be same law enforcement in both places. Pawhuska is well known for that sort of thing.

Why don't you look outside your local law enforcment and contact the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation. Isn't that commission appointed by the Governor of Oklahoma?

OSBI says the case is too old and as far as they are concern, it is a solved case because someone went to prison for the murder. In order for an investigation to be opened up in Osage county, the OSBI would have to be "invited" by the District Attorney to conduct an investigation and he isn't going to do that. He's the problem. He was in on the frame up in the first place and has been getting away with stuff like that for years. The people in Osage county know this stuff goes on, but have been repeated threatened into "blindness" of the activities that go on. Too many of them have disappeared or gone to prison for trumped up charges if they act on what they know. No one will run against the DA anymore for fear of retaliation. I had made the comment several years ago that a certain law enforcement official in Osage County wanted the guy who was framed for murder dead. The District ATtorney told me on the phone "if (the law enforcement official) had wanted ______ dead, he would have done it a long time ago." Does that sound like he knew the officer was likely to do something like that? He KNEW he was, because he had done it before. That same law enforcement official was at the Mullendore Ranch the night EC was killed.

How about the FBI? Can they investigate the district attorney & others? Everyone has to answer to someone.

On second thought, check out the Department of Justice or the U.S. Attorneys office. I don't think the FBI can go after that individual.

You are right, FBI cannot do an investigation in any county in the State without being requested to do so by the District Attorney in that County.

checking out the Justice Department might work. Thanks for your suggestions.

I fould the name of the person convicted. Cary Dale Herrin. He is housed at the Lawton facility. odoc# 119738 Found a link:

You can go to the Okla dept of corrections and do an offender search. He does not look like a killer.
Kelly stone investigative report
She is sure of his innocence.
I think the best route to take is the innocence project. www.theinnocenceproject.org I am not sure of how much info they need. But, I am sure more that I have.
I cannot find the names of the victims. I do remember the case. They lived out by Copan lake. The man was paraplegic. He had a girlfriend or wife that was the second victim. Have no idea how long they had lived there. It is very rural.
After reading what Kelly Stone had to say, it looks like he was railroaded by the Osage county deputy Billy Mitchell. And, Cary happened to be in the know of Mitchell's crimes.
I have no idea if Mitchell is still around.
Osage county also has a website.
Boy, this is getting deeper and deeper.
I'll get more info and be back...have a nice day!

Thank you Cathy. I am glad I checked the website, Rancher Mullendore & found your comments there. It is a travesty to find alledged corruption in any branch of law enforcement. Look at our country, it goes all the way to Washington & Wall Street! What happened to honesty & integrity?
Mystery Fan, I hope her information is of some help to you. I do believe there are a few honest people around so do not give up on your search for the truth.

Hi Carolyn, I just re-read both sites. Mystery fan reminded me that it was Billy Mitchell that chased them...How do we know he just gave up so easily after camping out there for days. Seems to be me he would have been very angry at being outsmarted by Chub and EC. I think Billy was on a mad tear. I bet he was furious. I never heard of divorce papers being such a hight priority. Now, I need to get to wrok and find Billy Mitchell.

I hope you find Billy Mitchell. He probably was mad & frustrated! One fact about serving divoce papers, sometimes it is an advantage to the person who is getting the divorce to serve the papers to their spouse first. They usually have more say on getting what they want in the settlement. Of course Linda had a great lawyer, whom she married and is still married to him. He is retired and they live in Tulsa. I checked that out last summer so I assume it is still true.

There had to be more to the Billy Mitchell connection than just serving divorce papers. That would not have been worth killing EC for, however, from what I have heard, it might not take much more than that for Mitchell to have done it. There is a deeper connection somewhere though. He got away with a LOT in Osage County that he should have gone down for. He's the one that was seen wearing a diamond CrossBell ring after EC's murder.

Mystery fan & Cathy, Do you think & this is speculation, could Billy have gotten that ring the night they brought E.C. to the hospital. He was DOA but his body was taken to the hospital first. Remember the leading funeral impresario, Arnold Moore arrived and ask the Mullendore's if he could do the honors for the funeral etc. HE caused key evidence to be erased forever. Gene Hackler set up everything for the embalming, as he was told to. The fist that was clenched was wiped clean. Sheriff Waymon had ask that they not touch the body until they could collect evidence. He even had the hand wrapped. What do you think about contacting that funeral home. Usually some of the older men are there and the ones that came along later may know some stories of that night. Billy might have visited the funeral home? We need to turn every stone over!
