Vowing to intensify his campaign against gun violence, Rev. Jesse Jackson held a protest rally Saturday at a Lake Barrington semiautomatic rifle manufacturer.

Are they protesting the local bars next for all those killed by drunk drivers? Will they protest Dominic's for selling candy that leads to wrotten teeth? What about McDonalds? They sell HOT coffee and if you spill it when you drive, you burn your ding dong or that fuzzy thing, whichever applies. I can only hope that Mr. Jackson doesn't stop with gun crimes. So many more of us are hurting out here.

A lot more young children are killed in this country as a result of alcohol abuse than by gunfire, yet Jackson's only complaint about the alchol industry was that it didn't hire enough African-Americans. Once Busch gave Jackson's kids huge distributorship rights in Illinois, he has had nothing but good things to say. Yes, Jackson has a 1st Amendment Right to Free Speech, but the customers of DC Arms also have a 2nd Amendment Right to Keep and Bear Arms (except in the very cities that are awash in gun violence). Ironic that the cities that have the strictest laws AGAINST private gun ownership have some of the highest murder rates.

A gun is just a tool. Shall we ban all objects that have been used in homicides in the past? What about baseball bats, hammers, tire irons, shovels... They are all deadly weapons in the wrong hands. Even if it were possible to rid our country of every single gun, criminals would then use some other "weapon" to kill and injure. Guns level the playing field for victims. How else can a 100 pound woman defend herself from an attack by a 250 pound man? Pepper spray, tasers? They can easily be defeated by trained persons.
What we need are stricter penalties for those who commit violent crimes. The Cook county court system is a JOKE! Violent offenders get little if any prision time for a first offense and very little prison for subsuquent offenses unless the violence results in a homicide. I think it's time to protest the Cook County judicial system and its ineffectiveness of dealing with criminals.

At the same time Jesse and Daley and thei liberal friends have made Chicago a "sanctuary" for the illegal aliens who use the guns.

The thing I wonder about is this: there are a lot of manufactures for legal semi-automatic weapons in this state - why do they stay here? Seriously, such a large concentration of manufacturers in what is probably the least gun-friendly state in the nation. Why don't they move?

I personally support these manufacturers and hope they stick around in the face of adversity. Most of the weapons these guys make go to police departments. If they're put out of business, who will arm the police? Jackson and his ilk never seem to think about that.
