How about a divorce for the uncommitted with a wandering eye and use her $190,000 salary to hire back two full time teachers. Make an asst. superintendent the interim superintendent for next year.

The district has an assisstant superintendent for curriculum and development and a director of curriculum and development who makes $100,000 a year. One of these has to be redundent. Eliminate one and you've saved the same amount of money and kept the superintendent full time. That seems pretty obvious, although Dr Marshall said publically she had to work to hard before the second curriculum person came on.

In my 30+ years in the business world ranging from small startups to multi billion $ conglomerates and my 16+ years of involvement in two different regional school districts across two states no one person in these organizations are irreplaceable. Organizations are structured to make this true.
If this agreement is approved and the Superintendent is shared between two Districts 40 mile away, what happens if 4 months from now the position of Superintendent of NMRSD becomes vacant ?(PowerBall winner O:) etc..) Do you hire a new superintendent, unfamiliar with both Districts or hire someone from with in the District? At the last superintendent vacancy the citizens were extremely vocal in looking beyond the District for candidates to fill the position. It is doubtful that hiring from within would be acceptable. If a new superintendent is hired how are they going to learn how run this large, fragmented school District? What happens to the teachers "saved" by the cost savings if we need to hire for only NMRSD? Are we creating a weak management structure that will not serve either District? These are the questions and discussions that should be answered . Fast tracking this is a mistake. There are other places to save $90,000 in the North Middlesex District. Before she gets a promotion, did she receive a favorable performance review for the past year by the NMRSD school board? Seems there was more minuses than pluses this year and always the drama.
Please let her go and start the search for a replacement. |

It's pathetic to watch both of these committees being led by the nose by the person who is supposed to answer to them. Neither committee seems to have a clear idea of what is going on and the only one actually speaking on this is Dr Marshall and her main interest seems to be in being first in the state to do this. Once she's done it you can be sure that like everything else she'll lose interest and move on to anyother project. Maureen's a starter, not a finisher.

If the position of Superintendent can be fulfilled in a part time capacity in the NMRSD, then our school committee needs to explain to the taxpayers of the district why we've been paying more than we had to all along. If the committee is so convinced that the responsibilities of this position could be fulfilled in a part time capacity, then why didn't our district just hire a part time Superintendent from the beginning? I think our district taxpayers are owed more than an explanation. Just how many teaching positions is this arrangement going to save and at what price for needed leadership in this district? Why all the rush to fast track this decision without gaining the input of parents within the district? It's incredible that the Quabbin school committee cannot search closer for someone to share administrative responsibilities. It's not the responsibility of the NMRSD to fill Quabbin's need for a superintendent.
