Please post reasons why you love Pennellwood Resort.

I love the variety of activities offered. You can be as active as you would like (tennis, shuffleboard, horse shoes, sand volleyball, swimming, kayaking, tubing, frog catching, baseball, basketball, kareoke, square dancing, and much much more) or you can just relax by the pool or stay by your cabin and read a book or just spend the week fishing (I caught a 34 inch carp this year!). You do as much or as little as you like. It is a great time to spend with family and friends. As the sign on the old dining hall always said "There are no strangers here only friends you haven't met."

I love being able to just relax and spend time with my family. You can't do that with most of todays vacations.

I love hanging in the rec hall singing my lungs out until 3 a.m.- and not having to drive home!! I love the sound of my daughters flip flops on the driveway going to the dining hall, I love knowing where my kids are all day/night and who they are with.I love watching everyone's kids grow up. I love that for the first 15 years of our Pennellwood relationship, NOTHING CHANGED! I want to go back to that Pennellwood - and my family will go back if we can. Those were good days. Good idea,Steve, asking people to post good things.

Those are all great things. I like how you talked about the sounds. I love hearing the kids playing, the sounds of the swings, the horseshoes hitting the pin, the sliding and hitting of the shuffleboard discs. The sounds of Pennellwood Resort are such peaceful sounds. I love them!

I love the sound of the bell and used to love the sound of "hey hey all you pennellwooders, it's time for crafts in the rec hall. RIGHHHHHT NOW!" I miss that! I also love the sound of my kids getting along and the shreaks of joy when they see someone they haven't seen since the year before. I even love the sound of the cars passing by on the service road each morning before the bell. I know that it's almost time for another Pennellwood day.

LCR, square dancing, great friends, Day 1 pranks on each others' cabins, Backatcha, poolside beers and whirlpools with 50+ participants, great friends, Mr. Sullivan night, "world champion" tennis, reading books, ice runs, salad bars, winery trips, great friends, karaoke, bocci ball, meals by-the-bell, great friends, family reunions, singing skip-around-the-room for birthdays, four square, movies on the porch, great friends, spending time with your kids while you watch them grow up, feeling the anticipation each year as the family packs for Pennellwood, I could go on for days here...

We love Pennellwood. Not just the relaxed atmosphere, but the friendships we have made over the past 9 years. My kids love it, my wife and I love it. Even if Pennellwood changes a bit over the next several years, it will be the people that keep Pennellwood going.

The lake is great. There are almost no other boats on the lake during the week. Tubing is awesome and using the kayaks and paddle boats is alot of fun. The beach could use some work. Pennellwood is a great place!

I love the freedom that the children can have there. Seeing the young children playing is enjoyable to me since I have none anymore.
Knowing my 18 year old son still enjoys going there after 8 years, and my two older daughters finally came and found out what we enjoyed so much
has made my stay at Pennellwood even more worth the trip.
Sitting by the pool enjoying the friendship of new and old Pennellwooders is probably the best part of the vacation.
I love the beautiful sunsets over the lake. I love listening to the children sing on the last night in front of the campfire. The staff's good-bye song is sad (wish I could stay longer), but helps me remember that I'll be back again next year.

We love:
- Pennellwood bread
- tubing, which was a different experience year to year based on the boat driver
- The yellow kayaks and water bikes
- Skit Show, especially Ooga Booga
- Square Dancing
- The salad bar
-'Pennellwood carrots', Pennellwood pancakes, peppermint ice cream, and Saturday steak dinner
- Pennellwood sweethearts and the rec directors
- The song 'Place Where I Worship' that Dave sung at the campfire
- Pennellwood sweethearts serving in the dining room wearing Pennellwood aprons
- Mallet pool

Things we've loved a lot longer, some of these going back to the 1960's:
- The swing outside the office of the old dining room
- Amos Moses and Little Black Book at the square dance
- The swinging bridge
- Campfires held across the bridge
- The old phone booth in the Dining Room
- The arrowhead display on the porch of the dining room
- The phone booth on the playground with the spiderwebs on it (didn't love the mosquitoes)
- Tetherball
- Hayrides
-(60's) The truck ride on Saturday morning for the kids while the adults were packing
- In the 90's, the group activities especially for the older teens, and they would even devise a t-shirt just for the teen group
-(60's) Going to Warren Dunes in the back of a pickup truck
-(60's) The horse show, with Brad, Craig, Susie, Joanie and Lad Stacey riding horses. It was boys vs. girls, and Susie and Joanie usually won.
-(60's) Big Red, the Stacey horse who lived across the road
-(60's) Bingo the dog
-(60's) Pennellwood used to have a bike rack by the water tower with bikes already in it. There was a small blue bike. My sister learned to ride a bike at Pennellwood on that bike.
-(60's) The tire swing, and the seesaw swing
-(60's) The rec director dressed as a pirate who smashed our pancakes with a plastic pirate sword
- Ringing the bell
- When we were able to bring our dog along to Pennellwood

How about water balloons and the Slip and Slide by the pool lawn? We have so many pictures of all the kids lined up to use the slip and slide. It was awesome.

I also loved the spinning thing they had on the playground. It was red and blue and had 4 seats. Two of the seats went up and down. Giving people rides on it was as fun as getting a ride.

We have been going to Pennellwood for 13 Years. We loved the freedom that the children had. The relaxation time for the parents and all the friends that we have met. We have just received an E-mail stating that this was our last year.. Pennellwood as everyone knows it is gone and now I have 2 heart-broken children that I have to explain why we can't go back to Pennellwood any more... We are very upset

I loved how Pennellwood had the central area in front of the dining hall with so much to do (before they put in that stupid court yard and moved the shuffle board courts to the back). As adults you could play shuffle board while your kids played in the sandbox or on the park. I also loved the way that the area with the ping pong/shuffle board/ and horse shoes was the main hang out area. People would always be sitting the the railings watching these activities. It was great! It is so sad that Pennellwood is gone!

We loved spending time with our kids at the pool. We also loved having three meals a day served to us by our Pennellwood sweetheart.

I HATE that they are taking Pennellwood down!!!! I love the talent show, the pool, the ping-pong trunaments, shuffleboard trunaments, horseshoe trunaments, the tubing, the fun we have with the counslers, and the campfire where we all sing sing-along songs. I think it is a shame that they are taking it all down!!!!!!!!!! It was very fun spending time with my family at Pennellwood. I will miss going there.:-(
