Searching for my American Aunt and her ancestors
My Aunt Helen Schonning, born July 20th 1907, was married to my uncle Edward Schonning. Unfortunately I don’t have her maiden name. Edward, who was born in Norway, died in 1968. Helen died about 1990.
I don’t know where she was born, but I think it was in the Barnegat Light area. After her husband died she moved from Barnegat Light to Lippingcott Lane, Mt. Holly NJ, where she lived next to her sister Ethel. Ethel and her other sister Mildred died in 1986. Helen also had a brother named Raymond. The last letter we got from Helen was posted in September 1987.
Helen and Edward got married June 12th 1932. I don’t know where, but it was probably in Barnegat Light.
In her letters to us in Norway she never mentioned her maiden name. Therefore I haven’t been able to track her in public records. She wrote that she had many relatives in New Jersey but mentioned no names. She also had a close friend: Annie Bjorneberg, but I think that she is long gone.
I hope that some of her relatives read this and recognize some of the names mentioned here and lead me to someone that can tell me more about Aunt Helen. If I get to know her maiden name and where she was born it can help me finding information about her parents and her siblings.
Hopefully yours
