Homes Evacuated Near Ark. Plant Fire

Firefighters said they are on the scene of a large, out-of-control fire at the Cargill Beef Packing Plant in Booneville in Logan County, Ark., according to KHBS-TV in Fort Smith.

Fire still rages. Can't get through highway 10 going through town. Everything is blocked off.

I am 5 miles from the plant on highway 10. Cargill employees had two days off for Easter weekend. I was to return to work tomorrow but looks like I, as well as the other 800 employees, will be finding another job.

No injuries that I know of. But the plant is devastated and the economy of the town as we know it is shot. The First Baptist church has an Umemployment representative there today and it is packed with most of the 800 cargill workers. I'm waiting for it to clear out a bit before I make my way there.
