Growing up at our family cottage at West Hill, my sister and I enjoyed going to the drive-ins with our folks. Now I take my kids there. Going to the movies outside, lighting the mosquito coils, fogging up the windows in the car, watching the dancing hotdog cartoons at intermission, it is all part of the great family tradition of summer vacation.

We love to visit the Pleasant Valley Drive-in at least 3 or 4 times a season. The people are friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. We usually pick up take-out Chinese, pack a cooler, grab the dog and we are on our way to a nostalgic night at the movies under the stars. FUN!

We love heading out to the drive in. We've been going to Pleasant Valley for years and I don't think we've been to a regular theater during the summer months. We even had our "Rehearsal Dinner" there when we got married back in September 2004. We were having an outdoor style wedding in the area and what better way to be able to invite everyone out, then to go to the drive-in.(Thanks to Donna and her crew for setting aside spots for us). And now that our little one is walking around, she'll be able to join the other kids playing frisbee or catch before the movies start.

What are the addresses of these drive-ins? That would be helpful so I know where to go.

How much are they getting per car at these Drive-In's? And do you listen to the movie through your car stereo? I don't want my battery to go dead in the parking lot. ;)

The one in Pleasant Valley is near People's State Forest. I like that one alot because of the surroundings, pine trees, not much light pollution, etc. I've gone there many times and always felt it was one of the best drive-ins to go to. My friends and I always had a huge summer picnic at the forest, and the first night was always the drive-in movie night. Became a tradition back in high school and still continues now, 16 years later. Glad to hear they're still open.

i just checked , they charge 18 bucks a car on wednesdays, or 9/adult, 5/child for the double feature on other days. you do listen to it through your car stereo (much better sound than from those little speaker poles), but they have a guy who goes around after the show giving any cars who need it a jumpstart.

i just reread my last post.. it sounds really spammy.. its not, i've just been there a lot. here's a critique then.. don't go to see a dark movie. with the projectors they used (well, that they used summer 2005) it can be tough to see detail in shadows.

on Rt 5 in south windsor they had one it stinks that they are so far away. It is the great time families and friends could go see a film. and still the price isn't to bad. I wish they would bring more back.

My parents way back in the day took me to the one on the Turnpike and in South Windsor, when I met my husband 10 years ago, he took me to the Pleasant Valley One. I love it there. I just wish people would turn off there headlights! Haven't been to the Barkhamstead one in years, but just said to my hubby he should take me again soon, it's a great atmosphere. Thanks for keeping it alive!

This makes Squeenter so pleased to hear! I only a 30 something but I remember the trips to the drive-in with as much nostalgia as anyone! I going to try to get to one of these (or both) over the summer, and I don't even have any kids!

Here's hoping these drive-ins stick around and thrive until kingdom come! I going to google map to find these theatres right now!

We go to the Mansfield Drive-In a few times a year. You can't beat 2 movies for $9/person plus you can bring in your own refreshments. If you dont like the 2nd feature, you just move your car and change the radio station.
