Amen! I had 2 iPhones on AT&T for 2 months. The iPhone is the absolutely BEST phone with the absolutely WORST provider! AT&T lie through their teeth and charged me penalties to cancel to go back to Verizon. I could not receive or send any text, voicemail or actual phone calls! Really too bad because they do not care!

Wow, you mean Asheville is behind NORTH KOREA as far as cellular technology is concerned? Yes, DPRK (North Korea) has a 3G network as of this year, beating out Asheville. Oh wait, Asheville does have food however...

You hit the nail right on the head! Awful phone service provider; I left AT&T as soon as I could and went with Verizon also. What an improvement in service.

I have AT&T service and it's fine. I rarely if ever have a problem. There are a couple of places that are dead zones (around Morganton and Tanglewood on I40 and a couple of places in Asheville, for example), but other than those I haven't had any problems at all.

I love how everyone in Asheville bases their opinion on companies as if it's the center of the universe. The fact of the matter is there are only a handful of people, most of whom prefer to act like Hippies and not learn how to use technology in the first place. Why on earth would a company want to invest an extra $50 Million in infrastructure when there aren't even enough customers to buy the stuff.

You moved to AVL to get away from it all. So when 'it all' isn't handed to you on a silver platter, why are you buggin?

Cellphone users can be divided into two camps; those who have never had a problem with their provider, and those that have had nothing but problems with their providers. I fall into the former. I've been with AT&T (Bellsouth) for almost a decade in Asheville and the only problem I've had was an issue where I could hear the other person but they couldn't hear me, and it was the phone causing it. I guess they weren't kidding when they said my mileage might vary.

Anyway, the USA has been behind the rest of the world in wireless phone technology for some time now, but at least the gap is shrinking.

Sorry, but the AT&T network in the Asheville area is really substandard. There are numerous dead zones in places where there should be service, and 3G is long overdue here. This is 2009, not 1999. And good grief, this is the company that advertises "more bars in more places."

Bob, believe it or not people actually live and work in Asheville, some of us have chosen the area for its high quality of life, I travel extensively but have chosen to base my business in Asheville, many of us have left behind places like Atlanta for obvious reasons. In an area with over 400M people AT&T would be well served to upgrade their network. Enjoy your 3G service as you fight the traffic.

OK the worst news is that its bad enough that we have horrible drivers who text all the time while driving. This is what Asheville area needs. A provider providing more availability in instable driving habits. Can you imagine the teenage driver accessing porn on his/her i-phone while driving?

And the I-phone is an apple product. Enough said there!
