Hey everyone, there are still tons of kids out there on the community action angel tree at Wal-Mart. If you can, please take the time to help the parents give these kids a wonderful Christmas season. Remember how magical this time of year is to children... The last day to purchase gifts is Dec. 5th.

. No last year another group tried to help community action and it didn't go as planned. The national guard armory was the toys for tots, not sure how they worked it this year, the food is through the kiwanas club. Community action takes the applications and tries to find sponsors for all the families that qualify. I know they do have families that have not been sponsored yet but I was told that they will call families as their Christmas comes in.. A lot of times it is the week of Christmas. All depends on when their sponsors deliver...

. I would just call their office and let them about it. They are also doing their heating program and have been busy. I believe this is the last week for that..

. Ok whatever.... You can write what you want but this is no fraud, what may be a fraud is the toys for tots that was given away at the armory. I went there to put In a application. And that women was so darn hateful, treated me like crap. Community action does a great job on their angel tree. If it wasn't for them my kids would not have a Christmas.... So put your fraud crap somewheres else..

i would just like to say i believe community action is a very good place to go if you need help and down on your luck.if they can help you they will.they stay very busy glad we have a place like that to go to.this was my first time asking for any help and i was happy with the concern they had for me .i signed up my child for xmas thru them and i got the call.when i went to pick up my gifts i started to cry for the things they have given my child for xmasand i could not believe there was people around like them to make me feel proud that my child would have toys for christmas i will never forget them for their kindness.so i can not believe the stuff some people write on here.i know it is not true and the angel tree is not fake.but i would like to thank them again for brighting up my childs face on christmas morning thank you again

This year will we be going to the armory to pick up toys again or just to the highschool to pick up the food? When do we find out if we were selected for the angel tree or not? Sorry if I offend anyone but I really do need the assistance. My children and I are on a very low income. I do not even have money to buy simple things anymore.

I am a sponsor that gives to this organization to help out the children in Nelson County. I know for a fact that this is legit. Mrs. Drake and her assistant work very hard to make sure these children and elderly have Christmas. They even try and get the items that the child has asked for. They volunteer many of hours to help the families in need every year. And without the generosity of sponsors like me and so many others, these families would not have a christmas. Yes, you are going to have your users, just like anything else but they take the applications and verify their is no duplications. These young ladies work long tiring hours to make sure no child is left out. Yes some kids may not get what they want sometimes but the majority of the children receive there wish. And i know that most agencies that do this treat the families and kids like numbers, Community Action does not, they give you the first name of the child, which to me means more because you are considered a person down there and not a number. It's people who usually dont get what they want or have applied on several list and have been caught that are always gripping. You need to be greatful and thankful that they are there putting in their time to make sure your children have a nice christmas. As long as Community Action is in charge of the local Angel tree i will continue to sponsor as many children and families as I can. If only we had more people willing to step up and give. It's about giving and not receiving. GOD BLESS the volunteers that make a difference in a child's and elderly life.

Although I hate the thought of children without christmas and do support charities, I don't understand why you have internet but can't buy gifts for your children. Another thing i don't understand is the $25 kroger xmas dinner program when they are already getting foodstamps. We had some very lean christmases, but I did what ever I could to make it happen. I cleaned houses, worked 2 jobs and didn't turn any job down no matter how small. We took the responsibilities of being a parent to heart and busted our butts to raise our kids without assistance. A hand up is fine, but I'm tired of seeing all the handouts. Granted, there are many who truly appreciate the help and use it to make their life better, but sadly we are becoming a society that expects others to do the hardwork and pass it along for free. I know my view will be unpopular with alot of ppl, but I'm so tired of seeing some take advantage of those with kind hearts.

i agree with you, but i have learned a long time ago that you can't fault the children for how the parents are. yes i to had some christmas that were very lean, but yet again if i can help make a difference in a child's life, even for one day it is well worth it. you would really be surprised on how many referrals that they receive for families from social services, the schools, etc. and we can not fault these children for what and how there parents behave. I was brought up with always believing that yes you need to work hard for what you have. But, until you have been in the shoes of some of these parents, do not judge because you never know what they are going through, and each family is different. Tell yourself to Make a differnce in a child's life and do not hold the child accountable for what the parents do or don't do.

If anyone has some time, go up and sit in the parking lot. There are some parents who are simply poor and need help. Help them. Then the fun starts when you watch the "poor" rolling up in nice cars, hair done up, nails done, and then complain they did not get enough. Get some popcorn and sit back, it is a real show of how our poor need more help
