Anybody know how much a preacher makes, say in a church like Parkway Baptist?
I know the revenue depends on the size of the congregation but what do you suppose the average would be?
I've been thinking about starting up a small business and going into the religion business looks pretty good.

Go to the Southern Baptist Convention or Kentucky Baptist Convention websites, and they have links to information for churches to use as a guide for payment of pastors, etc. Parkway Baptist is one of the larger Baptist churches in the state, and pays their pastor accordingly.

I trust your post was tongue-in-cheek and not serious.

I don't think they make a lot of money but the retirement program is the best you can get. ;)

i dont think that preachers get paid "well" no matter how large the congregation is. first of all they go into their field of work out of love for God, not for the paycheck. Alot of times the church provides them with a home, and utilities paid for and a very megar salary. probably about enough money for grocercies, and not much more than that. the money they get paid is usually from donations from the congregation, but not all the donations go to the preacher, they are used for other things that the church does like charity and events etc... so if you are only looking to make money from a business venture, religion is probably not a good way to earn big money, you do it out of a need to be closer to God.

Well, as businesses go, it's one of the most fool-proof.

My product is tax free and the test of it's quality comes after the customer is dead.

Can you beat that anywhere?

You can make a ton of cash doing it, especially if you're one of those fire and brimstone guys that misinterprets the bible a lot. I actually wrote a screenplay about a guy that started a church to make tons of cash. Just be sure to stress that tithing is super important and that the 10% comes before taxes are taken out. Also make sure to throw in some talk about how every time you tithe you will get it back 10 fold. People will believe it and the cash will just roll in.

I knew a young man (late twenties) who was a preacher at a church in Louisville. He made about 58,000 a year and worked some other jobs part time 'cause he had a lot of free days. This is honest to God's truth.

God is big business sounds like. Preaching has to be a calling or a con game. Either way you still have to put up with a congregation.

When I did attend church regularly, Our pastor got paid a percentage of all money that the church can generate. He also got a percentage of the offerings that are given, which can vary depending on attendance. It also varies because some of the people don't give the same amount every Sunday. I know this though, he is a good man that visits the sick and counsels those in need. Anytime...24 hours a day. I don't know what he get's paid, but it isn't enough. He does live a good life, and he deserves it.
