Article in the Gazette:
http://www.nelsoncountygazette.com/...

I say any pit bull owner who's dog attacks someone in that kind of manner should themselves be subjected to a pit bull attack.
While Any dog can be passive or aggressive, Pit Bulls tend to be aggressive by nature, and can exert an inordinate amount of pressure with their jaws.
Owners of these animals need to be extra careful in securing them.

Being raised around Pit Bulls my entire life, and now raising my children with them I must say I laugh out loud when I read articles where ignorant people see the breed as a viscious dog. In reality Pit Bulls are known not only for their loyalty and willingness to please their owners, but for their tenderness and excellence with children in the family, they have a high pain tolerance and will happily put up with rough child play.. As humans there is bad in every race and we cannot discriminate against one culture because of an individual, I believe in dogs this is the same case. Until you have truly been around Pit Bulls you will never know what gentle loving dogs they really are. 7765

I have and they are by nature attackers. They will attack and kill without any provocation.

I have to agree that the nature of this dog is protective and jealous, like a mother for example this can be very dangerous. We have had a few pitt bulls, I would trust my life with my favorite one but not any other life around her. She tore a kitten to pieces when I was not around, and the male ripped my shirt to pieces while I was wearing it cause I moved his favorite toy. They both had to be put down as my choice. They r extremely intelligent, and loving but their as dangerous as a mother grizzly.

Most of the problematic dogs of the breed are inbred to cause the temperment...this is done by stupid a** people to make them more aggresive. They are some of the most loyal dogs out there as long as you get one from a good bloodline that has not been inbred. But yea there are a lot of reports of them being agressive...but no more than german shepards..chow..doberman or any other dog breed. You just hear more about it because of all the ignorant people that want to exploit the breed and fight them to make money or whatever kick they get out of it.Everyone is entitled to thier own opinion on them but mine is they are one of the best dogs out there.I also agree owners should take precautions and make sure they are not out running around.Maybe all the negativity and blame for the bad ones of the breed should be directed towards the stupid owners and people that abuse the breed instead of the breed itself.Try spending time with and learning about them instead of going by the negative you hear before you cast stones at the breed.

So, we are stupid and slow for having issues with a breed that:
1. is outlawed in the United Kingdom
2. most airlines will not allow

You don't read about Labrador's or Beagles or Shepards attacking anywhere near as savagely as Pit Bulls.

I'm waiting for the day one of yours turns on you, or a guest or visitor in your home. I'd bet good money it will happen.

I raised a pit bull from a puppy and it attacked my ten year old nephew. It just turned on him while he was playing on the swing set one afternoon. He has to have plastic surgery on his face. His nose was almost bitten off. The dog was 8 years old and my nephew grew up with him.

I don't know how someone could judge this as off topic. It is very relevant.
Pit bulls are predisposed to defend. They must be trained to NOT do so. If not, no matter how sweet and mild they seem, or "know" someone, they will attack if they perceive a threat to their master.
They cannot reason. Your dog didn't know what a swing set means.
He may have seen your nephew coming towards you, in the air, and his natural instinct kicked in.

I have a german pitbull and she is the best dog and friend ever. I believe it all in how they are raised and or breed. My baby will eat an adult up, thats her job you not suppose to be poking around my home when you and I both know you not suppose to be there. That being said She loves kids and even saved my niece from drowning a couple of summers back I LOVE MY DOG! So when you see them attack dont blame every pitbull cause of the breed cause its all in how the are treated and raised

First of all,you only hear about the Pit attack's in the news because that is the breed being picked on these day's,what about the German Shepherd that took the new born baby out of the home and into the wood's a few years back, huh right no one remember's that huh!second you need to research the breed and then get the pet of choice from a real breeder and not a back yard breeder!alot of bad people buy pitt's for the wrong reason=like to fight them or guard something they should not be doing!I have a blue razor edge pocket pit,he is Loyal and very laid back and loves people, children, animals and loves to please,He is my big baby, and I would trust him 100 % around anyone or anything,Who know's what kind of life that pit had in the past, his previous owner may have been fighting him,GOD only know's,but it sounds like he has been shuffled from place to place,so before you jump to conclusion's about pit's go get yourself educated, every dog has some potential to be agressive,NOT just PIT'S!Come on people look up dog attack's around the USA,theres lot's of them, you just hear about the PIT'S!YES I LOVE MY PIT and I could care less who think's there bad, because I know my dog and know he came from a good blood line! It's not the breed it's 99% most of the time the IGNORANT OWNER'S so stop HATIN people and move on to another BREED,cause it's really getting OLD!

Phillip, you are Ignorant for even making the comment about other dog's not attacking as violent as a PIT,an attack is an attack, you must be a lab or beagle owner or lover, and it must be ok that they don't attack as aggressive! LMMFAS need I say IGNORANT or just plain STUPID! REDNOSE and Jason glad to see some other true resposible pitt owner's out there willing to stand up also for the PITT BREED.

It IS in the blood. Get your head out of the sand. Unless you have trained it to not attack, and tested that, your dog WILL go after someone, savagely.
This is true of all terriers.
