I'm trying to get as many signatures against nelson county's dress code concerning jackets in classroom. I don't think it's fair to punish only certain kids for trying to stay comfortable.Anyone else feel this way speak up!

Get with the program. The reason for the jackets is safety. No jackets in the classroom. That's why your child is able to wear long sleeved shirts with a collar. My child wears the long sleeved type shirts that have a a mock turtle neck. It's a safety reason.

WTF seriously? Safety reason? What kind of safety issue is there? Seriously... I agree with Mad Mom my son stays cold while he is in the classroom.

OMG! If they are worried about these kids packing guns or drugs in a jacket, why don't they just check the pockets and let them wear them?
It seems to me,the rules and dress codes get more ridiculous all the time! They keep these classrooms freezing cold a lot of times...and for some, long sleeves just don't do the trick!

How far into the school would you get wearing an Obama joker t-shirt?
Seriously, why can't the kids wear a long sleeve sweatshirt or a jacket? Man is it that bad?

I went there a few years ago. I had on a hoodie and they cut off my pocket on my hoodie. my mom was pissed so she made the principal pay for the jacket.

They really aren't going to change. I would suggest long sleeves. Plus, it's not like it's THAT cold. and now days no telling what these kids are bringing to school. I understand your concern, but you must also understand the schools concern and be reasonable and be happy that you don't have to worry about another kid bringing a gun to school (concealed in their jacket). Jackets should be the least of your worries now days!

Basically.. all I can tell you is Long Sleeves!

Also, you're kid isn't going to be there forever. Suck it up mom! If your kid is so cold that a long sleeve shirt won't do the trick then he/she or you needs to ask the teacher to turn the temp to a slightly warmer setting.

But this is not means to start a huge debate on jackets or not. I think you're overreacting. There are other steps you can take such as the ones I listed above.

Ok... so the safety reasons are... drugs and guns? Last time I checked you can stuff either of those in jean pockets. Most drugs are portable and you can easily buy a tiny .22 that would easily fit into a pocket. Hell I have a Walther PPS 9mm that fits into the front pocket of my jeans and I'm the same size I was in high school. So I guess my question or argument is why the hell does it matter if they wear a jacket. If they are really worried about it they should install metal detectors and drug sniffing dogs at the doors of the schools.

The teachers are not allowed to control temp. in room the school board controls that

while i was at nchs which was 2003-07 the teachers always changed the temp in almost every class. They just stuck a ruler underneath the plastic plate over it.

Same here.. I seen almost every single one of my teachers at some point use the old ruler trick! So if a teacher says they can't change it.. they are just being difficult it seems.

now all of the plastic things that cover the things that change the temp is locked. there is no ruler trick anymore. nc has upgraded some. i go there now. && honestly i dnt understand y were not allowed to wear nc t-shirts. have you seen some of those polos? how more revealing can u get? its disgusting. plus i dnt understand, wats the big deal to have a hole in your jeans...if the whole is BELOW THE KNEE. which btw is the line at where your capris have to go to. make sense, absoultely not. Dress code is a waste of kids learning time, teachers waste 5-10 mins jus checking dress code. about 2 years ago a whole class had been written up just b/c they're socks werent solid colors. Now i liked tht teacher b/c they sent a message to the board at how ridiculous the dress code actually was. OH.. and now in the mornings they are starting to treat the high schoolers like middles schoolers again. They have us go to the gym && be dismissed by classes. HOW STUPID IS THT. highschool is suppose to help you get ready for college!!! i dnt think college dismisses you from the gym. but i honestly cant wait 2 graduate b/c some of countys rules are nothin but a joke.

My opinion is that high schoolers get away with a lot more than elementry kids do. My 6 and 8 yr olds have had notes sent home for a small "cargo" pocket that could barely fit a quarter. I either had to sew them shut or they couldn't wear the shorts again. I have seen high schoolers wearing shirts that show as much cleavage than a slut in a bar on 4th street! And shorts that are def not to their knee! In my opinion, the dress code should be more enforced in high school than in elementry school. How many 3rd graders do you know that bring a gun or drugs in the class room versus a high schooler?! But at the same time, you son't see me starting a petition. The board is not going to change just becasue some parents bitch about it. The dress code is a saftey thing and I am glad it's in place, i just wishis was more enforced in some areas. I also understand what WTF is saying, but the dress code helps to decrease the chances of drugs and gun being brought into the schools.

Nelson County dress code is stupid in my opinion, some of the teacher that teach need to be wrote up sometimes for the outfits they wear,if the young adults have to follow a dress code then the teachers should to.I've walked right through the school without dropping of at the office and walked down the halls and no one asked what I needed or why I was even their so they need to back off of the dress code and pay more attention to who walks in the building, that's where there main concern needs to be.

Read the whole post that is what we are talking about. Even if you have a uniform jacket you can't wear it in the classroom.

I think they should MAKE the new principal of the elementary school wear a jacket. Have you seen the clothes she wears? OMG so unflattering. It is my favorite part of the day to go pick up my kids so I can see what kind of ugly thing she's wearing today.
