900? I heard it was more like 1400. Still, a lot of people out of work. It's alright, they can build roads and maybe the new bridges will finally be built in Louavull.

Putting money into those roads and bridges that head right out of the state along with all the money. The state of our State is crumbling fast!!! Oh what can we do?

So let me get this straight. You're blaming these job losses on Healtcare Reform - which HASN'T and now likely WON'T pass?

I'm sorry, but you guys sound like a bunch of idiots (not referring to you "Say What"). Humana is cutting 2500 jobs and hiring 1100 jobs for a net loss of 1400 jobs. The reason for this job cut is because Humana does not see 2010 being as profitable as 2009 (Which, by the way, 2009 was Humana's most profitable year TO DATE). This mainly has to do with the unknown of HealthCare Reform and the affects it could have on the company. Healthcare Reform might cause Humana to make 100 million dollars instead of 150 million dollars, oh how awful. This is the EXACT Reason we need Healthcare reform.

They will make the rest of it by raising our rates 40% and refusing to pay for some procedures and rxs.Humana and Anthem are not going to lose money no matter what.

Your right ! I bet you don't see a decrease in the premiums.
Mine went up several dollars and coverage is less, deductibles and co-payments are up also !
Now it will take forever to get your medical bills paid...reason...short of help.

Unlike government, insurance companies can't remain in business with yearly deficits. You'll get what you want soon enough.

Another opportunity to point the finger of blame at Obama.(how do you spell "stupid"?)

Humana is losing business because their product is no longer affordable.
Obviously, they will need to raise their rates to keep the stockholders happy and will lose more customers, lay off more people and then what?
The price of caskets will skyrocket! Damn, I got to go buy myself a chain of funeral homes!

Paladijn, that is EXACTLY why healthcare reform is needed. If there was a competitor in the market with fair prices, Humana and all the other top dogs would have to lower premiums to be competitive. Additionally, healthcare reform is aimed at eliminating the pre-conditions tactic (not covering an individual with pre-conditional health problems) and not basing rates on an individual's health status and/or age. All of this is what our President is trying to accomplish. I wish him much luck. He needs it fighting against this industry.

That's not what Obama wants to do. He has said all along he wants a single payer system. Fighting against the industry? They made backroom deals!

Secretary Kathleen Sebelius two weeks ago demanded Anthem Blue Cross of California, a unit of Wellpoint Inc, provide information about plans to boost premiums by up to 39 percent. On Thursday, she said the agency's report showed other insurers also were seeking "extreme premium increases" while Americans struggled through an economic downturn. "We know that insurance companies are not suffering that same kind of downturn," she said at a news conference.

Profits for the 10 largest insurance companies rose 250 percent from 2000 to 2009, 10 times faster than inflation, the report said.

The top five -- WellPoint, UnitedHealth Group Inc, Cigna Corp, Aetna Inc and Humana Inc -- took combined profits of $12.2 billion, up 56 percent from 2008, it said.

The chief executives of the top five received $24 million on average in 2008, the report said.
