Move on, Southeast Kentucky. A person can live, free of coal. If you own your own home, invest in a few wind turbines and a few solar panels. For about a $10,000 investment you can reduce your ecological footprint. Imagine, never having to rely on coal again. Wouldn't that be GREAT?!
I know many of you are going to be opposed. I bet many of your ancestors got wealthy from coal. Good for them. Now, that's in the past. Technology has improved, and we don't have to cut our planet open and tear out her life anymore. Everyone wins. Free electricity. No more meaningless deaths from mining.

For 10 Grand you cannot replace 1/5th the energy used in the average home... And you will pay an Additional 3 to 5 Grand for Maintenance and Parts per Year on a 10 Grand system... You do not have a Clue what you are speaking of.... You have heard the Hype and Good Gia All Mighty ..Believe... Now if Folks are Technically knowledgeable to build and service high voltage power systems (They can Kill You) You can cut your costs but The Vast Majority of folks should Never attempt to service Power Systems (They can Kill You)...

Now lets go through your Fantasy free energy... The Average Home in Kentucky uses Electrical Heating... So the Average Power Usage is about 14 KWH ... That's 14,000 Watts Per Hour... But in the Winter since most Kentucky Homes use 220vac Electrical Heating the Winter Average is around 23 KWH... A 10KW Solar System sells for between $28,000 to $40,000 depending on the Batter Plant selected and the Inverter System required... A 5 KW Windmill sells for about $10,000 but that does not include the Battery Plant... A 30 KW Inverter/Charger will run you a easy 10 Grand and a 20 Year rated 1000 amp hour battery plant will set you back another 8 to 10 grand... Now you have to Maintain all that stuff and if you Contract a service with Emergency Response (Stuff breaks when it's 20 below Zero) you can add a 5 to 8 Grand a Year for the Contract... Plus Parts...

Now lets say you want a 10 grand system... You have to not have AC, No Electric Heat, All DC Lighting, No Electric Oven, Limited Micro Wave, and Very limited other electrical usages... Now Lets Hope you don't have very clowdy day or a totally windless day for more than a few hours because your Batt Plant will Die... Because for 10 Grand your plant will be about a 100 AH 5 Year plant...

I'll give you an example of this great idea... In Michigan the University of Michigan with grants build a off the grid 3 room home to demonstrate a solar system... It Cost 90,000 dollars to build ... The First Winter the Sun didn't shine bright for a few days.. The Battery Plant died... The passive heating system under the floors failed and all the water lines burst... The water destroyed the floors and the Demonstrator Home never opened to the public and had to be bulldozed the following summer because repairs were too expensive .....

And I would bet she posted using a Computer made of Plastic and other products dug from the planet while sitting in a warm house heated by coal while letting the oven heat up for dinner before taking a hot shower and drying off with towels manufactured in a plant that was powered by coal....

I'll Start listening to these idiots when they First go out in the woods and build a hut from fallen trees and gather nuts and roots for dinner... With very, very, Very few exceptions these EcoIdiots use far more energy from Mother Gia than I do....

Do you have any idea how many months people would have to save up SSI checks to buy a windmill?

Coal pays my bills and has raised my kids. And done a good job at it. Also raised me. My father worked in the coal mines and my husband hauls coal. Coal was put here to use!

I am sure your daddy got real sick from working the mines, too. Coal wasn't "put here". It is in the Earth to keep the planet healthy. No other reason. You "friends of coal" people make me sick. Justifying killing the planet and your family because it makes you money. Greed. Only caring about yourselves and not giving a rats patootie about future residents of our mother.

I may be using coal for my current electricity, but I would rather be using solar or wind. It just makes more sense. Those are both renewable. Coal isn't.

Why? I could use various other forms of electricity. It isn't exclusively coal, ya know. Did you also know they have TVs that fit into your pocket? There is also running water in most places. Oh, and indoor plumbing. It is amazing what is out there, once you leave the hills of KY.
